I just purchased msfs via Steam and installed the initial file which was 1.2 GB. When I open the main app it wants install main files into appdata folder. I do not want that as I don’t have enough space on my C drive. I cant seem to change location?
Moved to Community support-Install, performance & graphics for community help.
Thanks - Installing it now. I seem to have about 8 GB of files in appdata folder - Am I able to move that to same drive where I am installing the main files?
Okay thanks - What about any additional third party stuff I want to install (FBW A320 for instance), where would that go? Appdata or my main drive? Because my C drive is quite small 110GB and more than 75% is already being used by windows and other programs and I just want to insure enough space there for future windows update?
Using the FBW installer, it will automatically install to the correct location (Community folder) wherever you installed MSFS. It won’t put it in your initial install appdata folder.
Perfect- Excellent stuff. I just now have to wait for installation process to finish
Okay thanks!
also additional info about the paths related to steam
An additional note to the rolling-cache ( the default 8gig ). You can later change the size of that and also move that to a different drive.
Yeah - I have changed the default location to the one in where I got my main sim installed and set to 16GB.
in my opinion a bigger rolling-cache than the default is not necessary.. also the 8GIG are not really necessary, at least I see no improvements here. More in contrast of that needs a bigger rolling-cache-file more load to manage that. And also if you not fly each day the same route / area these rolling cache is more useless. I did a while tests with disabled that completly and now I do next long time test with a lower 2gig rolling cache, just in case I start more than ones in same area. A different to former 20 vs off vs 2gig is not really noticable in my case - it seems more like the system have more free resources without that cache, or only with a little cache ![]()
