I circumnavigated Australia in a D62 and feel really good about it!

If this is the wrong spot for this, or too many pics, please let me know.

The scenery in this sim is just amazing.. well done team! (need to deal with towers and landmarks though eg Sydney Harbour Bridge wtf)

I had not simmed in a long time and this really helped me to relearn procedures, long distance navigation, system and landings on a variety of runways… the hard way, without resorting to youtube vids. I am stubborn and prefer to learn the hard way lol

The airports with full stop landings:

Perth - Kalgoorlie - Geraldton - Meekathara - Newman - Karatha - Port Headland - Marble Bar - Fitzroy Crossing - Argyle Diamond Mine - Darwin - Katherine - Numbular - Normanton - Horn Island -Port Douglas - Cairns - Townsville - Mt.Isa - Longreach - Mackay - Brisbane - Coffs Harbour - Sydney - Canberra - Jindabyne - Merimbula - Hotham - Melbourne - King Island - Devonport - Smithton - Queenstown - Hobart - Launceston - Melbourne - Warnambool - Adelaide - Coober Pedy - Ayres Rock - Eucla - Albany - Perth

I also popped into Essendon Fields airport irl and picked up a handbook for all aussie airports. A great tool! In several instances I used the book to contact ATIS etc on the frequencies provided WELL before it was an option in the sim

I spent some time in Kalgoorlie irl and got to know many of the mine workers. It was fascinating hearing about FIFO workers to all the West Australian mining towns. Part of this started to check out places like Marble Bar, Argyle etc Were they just mining towns.. was there more to them? Are they just int he middle of nowhere?

so, about that De-Ice refresher…

2 runways here apparently. It took 3 attempts, but finally got it down!

I prefer flying this to the actual drive… 4x in one month eh gad!! Miss a petrol stop at your peril

And to think what you would have paid for add-ons for it to look like this good right out of the box!

Once the bugs get all ironed out and the weather, traffic and ATC dialed in I’m gonna do the same but plan an round the world flight, in real time. I’ve always wanted to do that.

The pic from under the belly…was that from the drone then saved as a custom camera view? Nice pics and yeah, looks a bit frosty in that one!

Nice! I’m continually amazed how good this thing is for this type of flying. The realism is astounding, and will only get better!

that happens when you fly through so much red dust. lol
livery pack install

I chose VFR refresh on an extended mission to also give time for bugs ot be dealt with before I hop back into an airliner. Bugs in the sim I mean, bugs with my technique are likely to persist lol

agreed with the add-on’s I remember when we had to buy Oz in 3 separate packages… plus the separate Franco Cozzo scenery lol

There were better pics, but I wanted to sow the terrain variety adn not typical places (Uluru aside thought that was some amazing lighting). Underbelly shot was fixed camera 4 in Showcase

Well done. Were you in the cockpit all the time? Did you do fuel calcs or cheat like me with unlimited fuel!? You missed beautiful Flinders Island! And Lord Howe Island, but that would have been well out of your way. Nice series of pics. Cheers.

yep.. in the cockpit the whole time.. barring walking out of the cockpit to grab lunch etc. It was many shorter flights, so the longest was 4-5 hours.

Fuel.. that was part of the reason I did this. Familiarize myself with this planes consumption and calculate my requirements. etc I did do a few other stand alone flight around Victoria particularly.. Gippsland and the Shipwreck Coast

The DA62 is a really, really nice aircraft. I’ve got 60+ hours in that type already. Encountered icing myself yesterday, just south of Denver.

My observation is that the range in the sim doesn’t match real-world range, so I “refuel” in-flight to give me a range closer to what I’d expect to get irl.

Fabulous screen grabs of your tour… thanks for sharing!

Wow, it looks great. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice job, I’m gonna give this a go soon

As a direct result of this… we have booked a trip to the top end and will be seeing Katherine Gorge, The Bungle Bungles.. yellow river (aka giant croc central) Darwin etc.

A trip was happening regardless, but we decided due to the beauty this sim put on full show, and as the last piece of the puzzle, completing our real life circumnavigation ‘tour’ of Australia. Lol our trip will even include Fitzroy Crossing and Lake Argyle. Without this sim… I would NOT be lookigng forward to a trip to the middle of nowhere

on the VERY upside, this will also include a couple of tours in a water plane and a helicopter… my first!
