This is from a kind of middle of nowhere area in south Florida, just about 30 minutes ago… And I have multiplayer disabled, these are all real-time online traffic planes.
I haven’t tried the AI traffic, even though they said they improved it’s performance I’m still a bit wary of it, but I’d bet that’s working, too.
I think it’s still not every plane that’s actually in the sky, but it seems to be more than it was. Key phrase- “seems to be”. It could be just my imagination.
I’ve got to imagine it’s difficult to fit in our sim-craft with real life airplanes, especially at a super busy place like KOPF on a holiday weekend. I think there is some magic, insofar that I think they can take a real world airplane and turn it into a simcraft that can be controlled by sim-ATC, but I’m not sure that’s true, and if it is, I’m not sure if, or how well, it works.
I got told to go around twice a few days ago trying to squeeze into KMIA (which I would never do IRL in a GA airplane), once because the guy ahead of me didn’t vacate the RWY fast enough, and the other time because a guy behind me was a lot faster than me and was going to run me over. (And almost did.)
The second time (which was actually the guy still on the runway) I just landed anyway and made sure I didn’t run him over.
I really like the idea of using real world traffic, but they’ve got to figure out how to do spacing better. The guys at the real KMIA might not like my happy ■■■ coming there with my little slow Seminole, but IRL they’d figure out a way to make it work. They’d probably ■■■■ me on the landing fee, but they’d at least space me properly.
Not that I can afford a Seminole IRL to begin with lol…
In the last Dev Q&A, they said they filter out any real-world traffic that didn’t have a flight plan.(or something to that effect) because they couldn’t modify its trajectory in the sim if they didn’t know where it was ultimately going to go.
Speaking of online traffic, does anyone know how to make them visible on the vfrmap (pressing v) like over 100 miles away? I’m aware this was reduced for performance issue few updates ago
All I see is traffic from 5 miles away, this is with default high settings
My only complain is that with live traffic the GA is very sparse here in south america, most of them don’t fill a plan that shows up with ADS-B info, the majority even don’t have ads-b to begin with.
And the metadata is still a bit bugged, have seem hundreds of airliners with 45 degree of angle of attack while cruising or completely leveled when climbing after takeoff gaining altitude like a harrier.
Well, I definitely spoke too quick. On my last 2 flights, I have zero traffic. Just lonely ol’ me in the sky. One was across Florida, which is swarming with traffic atm, and the other in SoCal, also ridiculously busy. Not another plane in the sky in sim.
@KevyKevTPA any idea how i go about showing traffic the Garmin screen? i have live traffic and players online but dont see them on the screen, am i missing something? is this infomation only visible from the air ( not tested ) or will i see traffic on screen on groud too?
I’m not completely sure what “turns on” the traffic. I know it seems to happen on certain nav pages at certain ranges, but other than that I not much help, unfortunately.
If you manage to figure it out, please come back and share with the class…
I zoomed in on the screen and one plane showed up.. right now there is about 7 players around me and a couple of live traffic planes, only one is showing though - i’m assuming we don’t see live players just live AI traffic. Interesting how only showing one live AI plane. Will do some further testing.
Yeah, there’s no interaction with other players in your maps, ATC, etc unless you’re in a private group. You only see live / AI traffic on your maps / MFD and never hear ATC for other players.
