I have found the cause of CTD for me when I use VR.
I use Oculus Rift S
There is a setting in the Oculus setup when you click on the image of your specifik VR device that lets you use both computer sound and VR sound at the same time. I had that option enabled and that caused instant CTD when enabling VR.
I can’t say why, but disabling that function ended all CTDs for me. Hope it helps others too.
