I just signed up with Navigraph

Hi there, I just signed up with Navigraph and downloaded the exe files and maps…I am looking forward to using them with MSFS 2020 and Pilot2ATC and Simbrief…Do I need to do anything else? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the beta MSFS Navdata Installer? If not, you need to pick it up from here in order to install the nav data. See the documentation if you haven’t done this already. Once you get the nav data installed, you are good to go. Just remember that you’ll need to update it for each new AIRAC cycle. Also, if you have the Aerosoft CRJ, you will need to download the stand-alone FMC data for that aircraft and install it seperately.

Hi , thanks for the help and information…I am starting the d/l now…

Navigraph is really good.

You should have the Charts app, the FMS Data Manager app (to update things like little nav map, Simtoolkit pro etc) and the Beta MS2020 Nav Update app (updates only MSFS).

If you have questions, ask away.

And you can also download the charts app on tablet and do your planning there.

Hi, I have a question, How do I setup a flight plan just using Navigraph?

Hi, my work flow process is open charts and go to new flight, select the parameters (route, altitude, SIDS and STARS etc) and then export as a .PLN file.

Once in the world screen, just hit load flight or plan and load the .PLN file you saved. Once you’re plan has been loaded into MSFS you can go fly (just remember to change your starting location from the drop down menu if you want a cold and dark start, if you use the map MSFS starts to muck around with your plan which isn’t what you want :-)).

It can seem a bit daunting if its your first time planning an IFR flight, but its actually very intuitive and the CHARTS app and the ability to overlay charts and visualise approaches is excellent.

During a flight I use the charts app on an IPAD to track my flight etc.

Hope that helps.

I would check out this tutorial. It really helped me when I first got started with Navigraph.

That’s the video I was going to link up for Peter as well. It’s worthwhile watching for someone new to Navigraph.

I use Navigraph, Pilot2ATC, and SimBrief and this is my workflow.

I start with Navigraph Charts application installed in Windows.

At the top I click [Flights] > [+New Flight] > [Manual Input].

I always use Standard IFR, then input my origin and destination airports, check “Auto Generate My Route”, click [Route Options], and select “High Airways” or “Low Airways” as appropriate.

Then ill look at the auto generated route and see if I like it and make minor changes as necessary.

Or if I don’t like the auto generated route ill click the [Clear Route] button and that will give me a direct route between my origin and destination airport and I can start manually building my route from there.

If I am creating the whole route manually. First I check the Departures (SID) and the Arrivals (STAR) if available, by clicking the little eye icon next to Departures or Arrivals, find the ones that makes the most sense and find the waypoint where I will exit the Departure and enter the Arrival. I then add these to my flight plan by clicking on them in the map and in the waypoint information window clicking “Add to route”.

If no Departures are available I simply choose a waypoint on an airway that makes sense. If no Arrivals are available I look at the Approaches and choose a waypoint for the beginning of the approach that I think is most likely to be used. If there are no approaches I wait until the end of my en route flight planning and pick a suitable waypoint to exit the airway.

If the Departure exit is not on a airway then I find the waypoint I will use to enter an airway and add it to the flight plan. Then I find where I will exit that airway and add that to the flight plan.

Unfortunately Navigraph will simply create a direct (DCT) route between these two waypoints. This is especially bad if the airway changes direction at some point.

To remedy this I click [TT Type Route] that will bring up the ICAO style text description of the route and replace the DCT between the two waypoints with the appropriate airway name. When this happens Navigraph will add all the waypoints in that airway to the route description at the top of the screen.

I will continue in this manner as I complete my route until I make it to the entrance of the Arrival, Approach, or a exit waypoint.

I try to limit my DCT entries to my first waypoint and last waypoint. But sometimes that does not work out.

I do not put Departures, Arrivals, or Approaches into this part of the flight plan as I will let Pilot2ATC assign them to me during the flight.

To import this part of the flight plan into SimBrief I click the [TT Type Text] box then ill copy the Depart and Arrive airports and paste them into the appropriate boxes in SimBrief. Then ill take the en route portion of the flight plan in Navigraph between the Depart and Arrival airports and paste it into the “Route” text box in in SimBrief.

Ill then go through and complete the required fields in SimBrief and click the [GENERATE OFP] button.

In Pilot2ATC under [Config] > [Flt Pln] I make sure that “ATC Assigns SIDs/STARs/Approaches” are checked as required.

To bring this flight plan from Navigraph Charts to Pilot2ATC, in Navigraph Charts I click the [TT Type Route] button and copy the text of the route to the clipboard.

In Pilot2ATC i click [FP Import], select “Navigraph” from the drop down box, paste the clipboard text into the text box, and click [Import].

This will bring the lateral part of the flight plan into Pilot2ATC.

I’ll then set the “Climb Rate”, “Cruise Alt”, “Plan GS”, and “Dscnt Rate” values in Pilot2ATC based of what I selected or what was assigned in SimBrief.

From here I will save the flight plan in Pilot2ATC and Export it out as a PLN file for MSFS if needed.

In the aircraft I will either enter it into the FMS CDU manually, use a SimBrief import feature if available, or in some aircraft I will load the PLN file so that its pre-loaded into the FMS/GPS.

For the CRJ I have Pilot2ATC export the .flp file to the appropriate directory and then I can choose to import it directly into the FMS CDU or enter it into the FMS CDU manually.

Also in Navigraph Charts I select the Origin and Destination airports select “Open Charts List” and pin the airport diagram charts so they are easily accessible. I do the same for SID, STAR, or Arrivals when they are assigned to me.

I use a tablet to show a moving map and display my charts running the Navigraph App.

I also have the SimBrief downloader export the PDF of my OFP to a directory where I will have Microsoft OneDrive sync it and then open it on my tablet using the OneDrive App.

Thanks guys for all the input and help. I really appreciate it alot.

Im subbed to navigraph but i knew there was a big performance issue ar the first beta versions for msfs navdata, is it fixed now?

Idont really need it as i just have to update the crj and i only fly on vatsim, but it would be good to have the sim updated too…

Although still in beta the Navigraph updater for MSFS does not have performance issues. At least for the majority of the user base.

Thanks so much for putting your time into telling me about setting the Navigraph up for the flight planning…

Good, thanks, might give it a try, the first versionof the beta was horrible, but thats months ago now

Yeah. I cant say that nobody has any issues with it. But the widespread performance issues seem to have been remedied. I’ve been using it in MSFS, PIlot2ATC, SimBrief for months now and am using it in the CRJ.

I look forward to when the new MSFS beta updater becomes the new standard updater and I don’t have to use three different update apps to keep everything synced.

Go to downloads on your account on there website,

It’s in the list there somewhere titles “aerosoft crj” it will then promt you to download

go to: Navigraph

there click on the dropdown menu ‘FMS Data Manual Installation’, and look for Aerosft CRJ Professional;

thanks! :+1:t2:
