I just want the sim to work. Almost giving up

Hi there

As the title says, I’m almost giving up on msfs. I got me a brand new PC, purchased the game off of steam and there are several issues which make the whole experience the worst I’ve ever had with a game. I’m almopst at the point where I’d write off the 130€ and call it a loss.

Prior to trouble-shooting, let me say that I’ll be very thankful for anyone trying to help me with the matter. I’m half tech-savvy but new to Windows (last on was 98 and XP. I usually use Linux and have done so for about 18 years), so I’m even having trouble changing the wallpaper. ^^

This is my hardware

I don’t have any add-ons installed yet although I already purchased 2 or 3 via steam.

My problems are:

  1. As soon as I enter Career Mode and the guy tells me to fly around the area,I encounter a CTD / crash to steam
  2. same happens when trying a photo challenge
  3. Whenever I want to start Free Flight, the sim pretty much ignores which type of aircraft I chose. At the last install I was able to fly the Cessna 172 which was ok with a working AP, but now I’m stuck with the Cessna 185 without any AP and the trim won’t even work.
  4. In Free Flight Mode, the flight starts several feet above the runway. I may be lucky if I add thrust and flaps ASAP, so the plane crashes onto the runway but will let me take off from there.

So pleeease HELP. :frowning:

With that many issues, I would suspect that your installation didn’t go well.

I would try uninstalling the sim using the windows start menu and deleting all (if any) left over files from the sim’s file structure.
Reboot your device and install the sim again, see if that helps.
Fotunately with MSFS2024, that isn’t too time consuming!
Keep in touch!

uninstalling via Start-Menu isn’t possible (can’t find any uninstaller). It let’s me uninsatall via steam though. I’ll try that and then remove the remaining folders on my SSD.

Steam will work as well!
From Windows start menu, right clicking on the MSFS entry should bring up the uninstaller.

For the first time ever the flight started right where I wanted it to start. I even had to do the walk-around. If this really solved each and every issue, you’re a true hero!
