The wishlist discloses whether it’ll be implemented in “MSFS 2024” and “MSFS 2024+,” so my interpretation is this is not planned for either 2020 or 2024. But someone can clarify if that’s the wrong interpretation of “Not Planned” in the Wishlist.
I wonder if this might be something a third party could offer? We do have some airports that have moving trains and we also have ship traffic.
So it should be possible
Here’s a thought:
Train Simulator, but in the Flight Sim world…. Could a dev build say tracks, a station or yard, with some locos and rolling stock. And then instead of flying an aircraft drive the train, but they would “see” flight sim aircraft, and people flying in the sim would see these trains rolling across the landscape below. What a larger world that would be……..
we need railroads implemented in the sim. Like regular roads, they are important landmarks and are used all the time in VFR Flying in real life. OSM data includes the railroad network worlwide (and even X-Plane has it).. so i guess it could be easy for Asobo to integrate those. Ortho imagery alone is in some areas too blurry to identify railroads

Well you just voted for something that will certainly hamper your system performance. All this extra autogen is brutal on the CPU just like road traffic and AI aircraft traffic.

FYI, in the May 16th, 2024 - Development Update - Microsoft Flight Simulator, in the Wishlist - Lifetime - May 16, 2024 slide the status for this item (#21) is “Not Planned”
I decided to take matters into my own hands as it seems nobody else was interested.
You can follow a freight train all the way from California to Texas or Chicago. Or follow Amtrak around on 20,000 miles of routes. I will bring this thing to Marketplace soon.

Try “I Love VFR”. Don’t recall if it’s freeware or just really cheap, but it’s fantastic! Towers, nuclear silos, steam stacks…
The tall stacks are west of Knoxville KTYS. The nuclear silo is east of Fort Smith KFSM. Seems pretty much all of them are modeled.
I pre “flew” into John Tune KJWN in Nashville and there are unnervingly tall towers SE of the field. “SURELY THIS CANT BE RIGHT?” I thought. Yep. They’re really there.

BUt why cant there be Trains depicted in a flight simulator.
Its not as if you can control the trains, but just see them when flying
Like you can see cars, while MSFS is not a Car Simulator
or
Like you can see people, while MSFS is not a People Simulator
or
Like you can see airport vehicles, while MSFS is not a Vehicle simulator,
SO yes, I would like to see MORE trains in MSFS, across the country, and not just as part of localized airport Mods.

All that extra stuff is just a waste of resources, the more stuff you add , the worse the simulator runs
It is your choice what you want to see in the sim.

Like detailed airports, circuit breakers, WX radar…all stuff you don’t NEED to fly an airplane from here to there.

Not if they have the resources to run it. These things are usually optional addons, if you dont want them, dont buy them. Its not mandatory
