Hello ,
I did the upgrade for MSFS 2 days ago without clearing my community folder.
What is the big mistake I did ?
If not is it normal today My sim crash 2 times.
So my question is : I would love to erase my game completly and re install it BUT this time should I buy a 4T hard drive beside ? if yes put the game on it ?
what about the addon manager is it very important to use this ? is there a best addon manager I can use ?
I am not very good at techno so I need advise when you guys have time please.
Thank you so much for your help.
I know its a lot of questions :))

Does MSFS still crash if you temporarily rename the Community Folder (e.g. to Community-Temp)? If not, then that suggests a conflict between MSFS and an add-on. Removing the conflicting add-on would save you from having to do a re-install.
You might want to read this zendesk article, if you have not already done so:
How to repair or uninstall Microsoft Flight Simulator via the Xbox app
Installing on an SSD would provide better performance than a HDD. The absolute minimum size I’d recommend would be 500 GB. 1 TB would be much better, 4 TB would be fine, giving you lots of space for add-ons. If possible, put the game on a different drive from the Win11 OS.
Others can speak to your add-on manager question. I don’t use an add-on manager myself.
First of all, you made no mistake! Clearing your community folder prior to installing an upgrade is only a Microsoft recommendation, not a hard requirement. My MSFS is very stable and I get excellent performance, however, it seems to be the norm the past 6 months that after I upgrade I get an occasional sim crash to desktop soon afterward. What I find to work best to avoid CTD’s (again, this is just MY experiences):
-
After an upgrade of any type:
- I immediately exit the sim and reboot my PC.
- Clear my driver shader cache
- Immediately after upgrading I will clear my community folder and just do some short, simple flights to check stability and performance
-
If the sim does crash:
- I reboot my PC & then clear my community folder
- Then go back into the sim and do something simple like one of the discovery flights
- Then quit the sim to get a clean exit.
I also do periodic back ups of my drives just in case as you always see these posts describing catastrophic doomsday scenarios post upgrade

Lol if you needed to do a reinstallation after a couple of sim crashes everyone would be overwhelming MSFS servers to download hundreds of gig

Hello SmotheryVase 665 thanks for your answer. SO if I rename the community folder do I have to create another folder name community and put nothing in ?
The sim can run with 2 community folder sorry my head is so full of question lolol
I have never cleared my Community Folder
and have never had a problem.
Note that I do not have many add-ons, just 3.
I would not worry about it.
Thank you I am about to try again tonight to do a little flight to see how the system respond because this morning 2 times he crash
.
There is no need to create a second Community folder. From this thread:
I never reinstalled MSFS because of problems.
CTD’s were a known problem with the game or a problem with an add on.
Use add on linker to manage the community folder.
remove all add ons and then see what happens.
I never cleared my community folder before an update.
