I wanna get an egpu cause my fps is not how it should be , is it extra gpu power or is it only the egpu that works?
What is an ‘egpu’?
External gpu
I’m pretty certain you’d be using the eGPU instead of the internal one.
An egpu is nothing else but a gpu in an external case.
It is meant for systems that can not fit an internal GPU or if you want to share the GPU on different systems.
It is not like eg. SLI which combined the power of multiple cards. So it will not add to your current GPU bit just replace it.
As Edwin has stated, you are replacing the GPU capabilities of your system, which I’m guessing is a laptop. Remember for MSFS which is demanding anyway, you’ll lose 15%-20% of performance using an external GPU over an internal one, however depending on your current setup, that could still provide significant gains.
For me the GPU is about half the cost of a brand new PC, so I would think very carefully before buying an expensive GPU, is it worth saving a bit more money and getting a new or refurbished PC instead?
You also have to consider the performance of your currrent system, is it completely bottlenecked by GPU, we know MSFS is CPU heavy as well and if a more expensive GPU shifts the bottleneck to the CPU which is likely on a laptop as it could introduce throttling because of heat issues, then you will get even less performance back from your brand new GPU.
My advice would be to get a refurbished PC instead which you can get pretty cheaply in the UK I’ve provided an example URL but of course this would depend on where you are located.
Ok thanks everyone
