I want to make dirty A320neo wings. Looking for guidance

Hi friends,

The Asobo A320neo has become my favorite airliner to fly and I’ve made some nice wingviews too. However its just too clean and feels like a plastic toy model.

I want to learn how to make a dirty plane, Im not talking off roading rally mud splatter (heh) but the general dirt streaks and such you see in the real world on the wings.

Real world vs MSFS and you see what I mean:

Where would I begin? Can I get such results using free software like GIMP or Paint.NET? Could someone point me to the wing texture file location?

Thank you for any advice.

I guess you can start by looking at examples from other liveries that already has dirt in them. This is one example:

If you want to use the wing texture from them, you have to contact the designer for permission to use the dirt. And just apply it to your own wing texture…

It’s not my personal preference to see dirt like these. Makes me question the airline’s maintenance and cleaning activities. I prefer to fly the A320neo like it’s brand new in its maiden flight that was just delivered from Toulouse. But it is my personal preference, I know a lot of people don’t share the same preference as I do. But I hope this will help you add some dirt to your liveries.

This is a great idea, I will look at the textures of this plane and ask permission to use them if I like them.

I agree on the maiden flight they will be so clean in real life and I can see the appeal  however its tough to keep them that way when flying in polluted air, rain, landing on slushy runways have a storm etc. Having said that some airlines do take better care of their planes than others!

The dirtiest planes Ive been on IRL have belonged to Air France. I saw one of their 777s that looked like it had been taken offroading lol.

Thanks for your idea and for the link to the dirty texture! I will just ask permission, no need for me to reinvent the wheel!

You only need permission if you want to share or post a livery that you created where a part of it uses someone else’s work. I don’t think you need to ask for permission if you just want to reuse it for another livery just for yourself.

Good point, otherwise we’d all be asking permission 24/7! I forgot this fact. Even back in the FSX days I used to use bits from different freeware mods and combine them for my own use.

Hi, i’m a livery creator. To make dirty is not very simple, but you can download this file ive created for a livery on flightsim.to.

If you want to all the FBW aircraft and liveries you replace the file with mine in:

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\localcache\Packages\community\FBWaircraft\simObject\Airplane\texure

Or if you want Just for one livery, do the same things, but replace the file in livery folder (See flightsim.to link up)
Hope this helps you. If you need more help just ask! See you on a dirty plane soon!

Sincerely,
Filippo

PS.: If you want i can create a dirty livery for you, just tell me the airline company
