I5 13600k vs amd 5800x 3d

Hey guys- I need little advice here I am getting RTX 4080 or RTX 4090, which CPU would be best fit for this upgrade? 13600k with higher clock speed or 5800X 3D with higher L3 cache BTW I do little bit VR gaming. my current setup is I9 9900K RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, samsung 970 2tb M.2, Maingear 1200 watts, samsung basic 4K monitor. Thanks!

Wait for the new amd 3d chips and benchmarks, not too long to wait for release.

I have the 5800x3d with RTX 4080. Great combination. :slightly_smiling_face:

On microcenter 5800X 3D $299 and I5 13600K $249 they look kind of good. That’s why I am thinking about them.

AMD 7900x3d and 7950x3d coming end of feb i would wait to see benchmarks if i was you?
7800x3d will follow later date

Same. Magnificent combo, even in VR.

7800X3d at 5Ghz vs 5800x3D at 4.5 Ghz. I would expect 10% higher performance in MSFS2020 (best case) but it is much more than a 10% higher system cost (CPU + DDR + MB). Good idea to wait for the benchmarks but if the 5800X3D system savings allows for a 4090 (16K CUDA) over the 4080 (9.5K CUDA), go for the 4090.

Not interested in 1080P benchmarks
In all other resolutions (4K) it’s going to be a GPU job.

I have both the 5800X3D and a i7-13700K.
One with DDR4 off course and the I7 with DDR5.
With 4K the lows are much better with the I7.

In this case, they are relevant. With the sim so cpu heavy, knowing how well they compare with each other without being gpu limited can directly translate into knowing which would be the best for your budget. That means being able to turn up the LOD’s higher, having more AI traffic, or using more mods without bottlenecking the cpu. With the newest generation of games and graphics cards, CPU bottlenecks are becoming a real issue, even at 4k.

You’re asking about CPU performance, so 1080p CPU benchmarks are relevant to the discussion as it forces a CPU bottleneck.

Update, I followed my guts and got 5800X 3D $299, MSI carbon X570s $249 and RTX 4080 $1199. So far MSFS FPS improved significantly ex on JFK 4k ultra quality I had 15 to 22 FPS with my old 9900K with 3090, now I am getting 35 to 75 FPS. I wanted to get 4090 founder editions because my case only allows GPU 330 mm max. The only issue I found RTX 4080 is lower vram 16GB is not enough for 4k ultra quality. So, I am going keep an eye out for RTX 4090 (BESTBUY) and exchange my RTX 4080.

I’m not seeing this limitation with my 4080 running 4K ultra. I just loaded up a couple of flights at complex airports, complex aircraft, MP heavy, FSLTL AI heavy and cloudy weather and the worst VRAM use I saw was 12GB in DX12 and 9GB in DX11, so plenty of VRAM headroom for me.

I don’t know, I see my VRAM usage 14.5 and higher over 80 percent of the time. I am playing at 4K ultra maxout everything with TAA

This is dependent on settings, particularly terrain LOD. With terrain LOD at 400 and a 4090, I see usually see VRAM usage around 16 GB and as high as 20 GB in dense areas.

I posted a screenshot in another thread where you can see total VRAM usage maxing at 16 GB.

I, and I had assumed the OP, were I were discussing VRAM usage with the 4K Ultra preset, which has a TLOD setting of 200 by default. It seems the OP was talking all settings at, or close to, max, so that’s a different story and explains why there is higher VRAM use like you are experiencing too. Personally, I’m happy with TLOD and OLOD at default ultra.

I will give it try when I get home today.
