I7 9700 + 4070ti anyone?

Anyone with this combo? I know the 9700 is a bottleneck but was wondering if anyone has experience with the 9700 with (specifically) 4070ti with DLSS 3 enabled.

Am considering the this card at the moment (mainly for msfs) and am wondering if it will be worth the rather hefty price tag

It depends on what GPU you have now, what resolution you run at, what level of graphics settings and FPS expectations you have. Having said that, the RTX 4000 series frame generation capability can give a major boost in performance, even if your current system is often CPU bound in MSFS.

If it wasn’t for DLSS3, you likely wouldn’t see much of a performance difference due to MSFS being so CPU bound. If I were you, I would consider upgrading your processor first. Depending on your resolution, this should give you a significant performance increase.

Unfortunately that would mean a new Motherboard and Memory as well. It really is the DLSS 3 performance with this combo I was looking at. I thought there would be some Youtube vids but sadly, no.

If your going to spend that much on a GPU, if it was me I’d be upgrading mobo and RAM first. The 4070ti will most likely be limited by the 9700, therefore won’t be much of an upgrade, even with DLSS 3.

I have the same CPU and the same dilemma. 9700 will be a huge bottleneck on this combo BUT I guess 4070Ti frame generation could help to boost frames either way, right? BTW my current GPU is not enough for MSFS so I have to upgrade but I can’t afford CPU, MB, and GPU at the same time.

What GPU you running at the moment? You’d be surprised at how much smoother things can become just by upgrading the CPU. When FS first released, I was rocking a 3770k with a GTX 970 and 16 gigs DDR3, it ran… just about. Then I went the AMD route, went to a R5 3600 with 32 gigs of RAM, still on the 970, the fps were roughly the same but things became a lot smoother. Around 6 months later, I managed to snag a 3070 and the fps improved further.

1660Ti, but I’m on 3440x1440 and I’m limited by GPU. BTW I have 32GB DDR4 if that even matters.

Yes, exactly - this is my point as well. Unless you’re pushing 4K resolution, MSFS is largely a CPU bound title that scales directly with processor performance. I would take the time to upgrade the CPU and motherboard, then save the GPU for your next upgrade step. If staying with Intel 12 or 13th gen, you can use your existing DDR4 RAM to save money.

The beauty of frame generation is that it doesn’t care if your CPU is the item currently limiting performance, it will blindly double even your worst case mainthread limited scenario. So as long as you are happy with achieving double the lowest FPS you currently get at the settings and resolution you intend to run with the new card, then a 4070ti should definitely be considered.

Also, if graphics is important to you over FPS, then the 12 GB of VRAM compared to your 6 GB will provide quite a visual increase.

Relying on DLSS3 to avoid upgrading a 5 year old CPU is counter-intuitive and delaying the inevitable, especially considering the current 4070 Ti price.

That’s what I’m doing, except I’m getting a 4090 and an Intel Core i9-13900KF (5.8GHz Turbo) 24-Core CPU. I do have to replace the motherboard as well because mine won’t work with this CPU but I don’t have to worry about the memory since I use DDR4 and the new motherboard is fine with it. I’m also replacing the C drive with a faster and larger capacity one and adding an extra 2TB internal SSD samsung. I already have an internal 8TB SSD drive and two more SSD 1TB each. If this new system, which was upgraded a couple of years ago already, doesn’t do what I expect, I will not waste anymore money on this. As usual, with my current system with an EVGA RTX 3090 Ti I can play anything I want with the best performance, but is never enough for the sim, specially if I want to fly from busy airports with payware jets and traffic, GSX…etc. We’ll see.

On the contrary, it may stave off the inevitable indefinitely if the OP is happy with getting double the current lowest FPS with such an upgrade. It all depends on what the OP wants and how much they are willing to spend for it.
