i9-11900K + RTX3090 = A must have

I was also thinking about waiting, waiting and waiting again …until the release (and the real availability) of the i9-15900K + DDR 7 but the reality is now that the world is facing huge shortages of IC’s of any kind (memory, logics, storage,…). In my case, I waited arround 2 months before getting my RTX3090 FE (at the Nvidia “regular” price, on november 2020. Now, it is impossible to find one, here in France. For my new motherboard (Asus Maximus 13 Hero), I had also to wait but less. Finally, I got my i9 two weeks before. So the hole process was very long. Good luck for building a complete computer based on the future releases

Concerning the CPU, I really think that the 11900K is perfect for MSFS, for two reasons:

-In task manager I can see that MSFS, uses 2 cores, not more. So a 8 ou 10 cores CPU (intel) or even à 256 cores (AMD )don’t make any difference
-The 11900K IPC has been increased by about 20 % since the 10xxx series. This is explained here for example:

Thank you very much - no problem with it being in French - what I cannot decipher, my traslator app can
I’ll run through your settings, and test in a similar situation

It was worth looking at the option. Thanks. My laptop has the Thunderbolt 3. I suppose I would have to check other compatibility with the Razer Core X on my HP Omen. However, the sticker shock of a Core X plus 3080 GPU plus cable plus all the taxes ends up being about 1/3 the cost of a new laptop with the 3080 included. Then, the size of the adjunct kind of defeats the way I use the laptop to play MSFS.

I “only” see 10-11 Gb VRAM being used. I was hitting 30-35 FPS with the same setting as you over The Eiffel tower - in todays weather, with a bit of online players present. So less memory usage, but almost the same FPS

ps. I sooo look forward to the performance optimizations, and DX12 support

It may be a question of weather. Do you also have enabled the Resize bar. I don’t know if this makes a difference. The top Vram value that I have seen in the task manager was 15.1 /24 GB. I will give it a try now also at 18:00 (Paris time) and taking off from LFPO with the DA 62, real time and real weather

Regards

I must have it - for the regular price.

Ok. I tried it again at 6 pm, real weather. Vram between 13 and 14 GB. Please note:
-Because I built a new computer my MSFS installation is “fresh”
-Main display in fullscreen mode
-Taskmanager displayed on my secondary screen
-Main RAM used by MSFS: up to 17 GB. My system is a 64 GB RAM one

Regards

The regular price was 1549 € incl. VAT That is expensive but not that much if compared to the previous Nvidia Titan, with slower memory

Actually there are many tests already saying that ddr5 for gaming wont bring a huge performance boost …

I have an I7 4790K + 24GB Memory + GTX 1080 + 1440p + A320 FBW and I’m 90% in ultra settings. No stuttering and fps issues. VSync 30 fps (Must have!). It’s as smooth as silk! The excellent performance is not due to the RTX 3090 or 11900k only but thanks to the small distance radius of objects, trees and buildings.Which allows small pc to be super efficient. This is the reality of things.whether you are in ultra with a GTX 1080 or an RTX 3090 the landscape looks exactly the same The RTX unfortunately does not add more trees and buildings to the horizon It is just the number of fps that changes.

DDR4 was released in 2014. The current gen AMD and Intel CPU’s are the last gen which will support DDR4 as both move to DDR5 with their next release. For Intel that’s in about 6 months when they launch Alder lake.

Care to link to a coiuple of these articles which makes this claim?

@Aviattore7040, no it is not.

Any upgrade including 11900K. Avoid at all. (especially with these prices)

It is your money after all your choice.

I thought, I9 11900k are a bit faster than the i7 9700k, at the same clock speed

Yes it is faster. If you look at the benchmarks 11900k is 3 fps faster than Ryzen 5950X

I wrote that because in my personal opinion 11900K does not worth it. Either get 10900K or 5800X & higher. Even if you are upgrading only for gaming, a 5600X will be enough for you.

Problem with 11900K will not bring anything new to you as a user than a 10900K or 5800X. It is the same reson why people bought 10850K instead of 10900K.

On the other hand if intel decided to sell Rocket lake way cheaper than its current MSRP i would have comment different.

At the very moment, where MSI ACE + 11900K is ~1000$ it is not worth it.

  • 10900K same MSI ACE ~850$
  • 5800x + Aorus Master ~800$

Just upgraded from 8700K + 1080ti to 11900k +3090.
this is an ultimate flight beast combo 100%

Congrats ! It is really a mistake to buy a 10900K today. The higher IPC of the 11900K must be taken into account. Also, some enhancements are coming for MSFS like the multiscreen support. The quantity of Vram will then really be critical.

Regards

Great to know it actually works, so you can confirm there is no stuttering?
Using 2 cores must really help, my Ryzen 7 3700X is normally at 17-20% usage.

I think I will have to wait for DX12 as £2200 is enough to spend on this and I only have 2 settings on ULTRA, they drop every update? ( I did have 5 on Ultra in the beginning @ 1080)

Window 10 pro 64
Thrustmaster Airbus SideStick & 2 Lever Quadrant
Ryzen 7 3700X
GIGABYTE RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB GAMING OC Pro
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (DDR4-3200)
Gigabyte 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe
Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE
MSI Optix 3440 x 1440

100% agree. 11900K release is misunderstood. After the latest bios update with adaptive boost enabled this CPU is a Monster.
Also temps are amazing, 28-30 on idle and with MSFS maximum temp 75c with 5.3ghz boost.
I made a test flight at EGLC ( ultra settings at 1440p) and for the first time i saw “limited by GPU” with fps average 60-75 with Robin DR400. London needs a lot of vram everything below 12gb will suffer

Well, your statement is not completely right… 2 more cores in gaming is useless for pretty much 99% of the games out there (in future games will be more optimised for multicore). When you compare the i9 11900k I guess you just watched few reviews online but they are not telling you the true story… there is a 12% increase in terms of performance depending on few configurations in the z590 chipset in combination with the new Intel architecture. Specifically, power limit can be removed (bypassing intel specs), set to intel specs or you can load the optimised one based on your matherboard manuifactor values and curves. Memory latency can be lowered down thanks to Gear mode 1 and XMP profiling (3200 Mghz are now natively supported and xmp 1 profile is stable with no overvoltage). Another feature of the i9 11900k is the new Intel Adaptive boost (based on the termal throttle, different cores are running at different speed and if there is enough room in tems of temperatures limit then they will run at higher frequency for a longer time). Finally you have the Extended Bar feature that could boost another bit although at this stage is not supported by many games. The most important factor is the cooling, the more you keep the i9 11900k cool the better it performs (see intel adaptive boosting and power limits).

That being said, for gaming, I need to admit the i9 11900k is not outperformed at all by the I9 10900k. I own both and Do I suggest to upgrade? NOT AT ALL!!! But I’d like to point out few things as I can compare the two products based on real world scenarios.
