Hi all,
(sorry if this is in the wrong section, 1st post)
This has been bugging me, but haven’t had time to ask about it.
Basically I know the theory behind IAS TAS etc.. but cant for the life of me calculate it using the IAS that the simulator is giving me.
My example:
23000 FEET / 0 WIND / -19F (-28C) / IAS 304Knts / TAS (MSFS) 426Knts / TAS (My calculation) 406Knts
(0 wind for testing of course).
I find 20Knts kind of excessive especially when on dead reckoning TOT exercises over longer distances at night etc.. (perhaps I am wrong and 20knts is acceptable)
Thanks for helping me verify.
-Not sure if these images will show up, but they back up my calculations.
No need to apologize and thank you for your post !

I get 425.6 knots ktas plugging your numbers into the converter linked below. Keep in mind that many of these tools ask not for the OAT but the relative offset against ISA temperature at the current altitude, so I put in 2C as the temperature offset against for your -28C against the ISA standard temp of about -30.5C at 23,000 feet:
The ISA standard atmosphere model has a geneeric computation of how temperature drops off with altitude, with the “standard atmosphere” having 29.92 in/Hg pressure and 15C temperature at sea level.
It looks like your weather settings at set to ISO standard, as 59F at MSL in the weather dialog:
so the 2C temperature variance in the -28C you reported versus the ISA-derived value of -30.5C that the calculator gave me might be due to sunlight/turbulence/etc varying the air temp?
If I leave it at standard temperature, I get 423 knots which is still quite close.
Thanks for the reply!
Got the Temp Offset now, and using that figure with Aero Box works .
still cant get E6BX | Aviation Calculators to give me the right figure, will practice more.
