Planning my build .
According to the Ideal PC Specifications for Microsoft Flight Simulator (AMD) updated on December 22, 2020 , listed CPU is Ryzen 7 Pro 2700X and listed RAM is 32GB .
First time I’m even seeing this CPU ; I thought all the buzz was for 5600x .
Re: RAM , no speed was listed .
So , what’s the goto , for flying GA in 2K .
For GPU Planing on 3060 or 6800 .
If FreeSync works , I’d go for the AMD .
Having currently using the 2700X, I say it isn’t great for FS2020. The 6-cores Ryzen 3600 is better, heck even the 4-cores Ryzen 3300X is better.
RAM: go with at least 3000mhz with Ryzen, diminishing return at 3800 or faster.
GPU: Techspot rate Radeon 6800 being 9% and 14% faster than 3070 at 1440p and 4k respectively. However if you play other ray tracing or DLSS games, or plan to use their NVENC encoder for streaming, maybe you might want to go with Nvidia.
Maybe FreeSync wouldn’t work well below 48fps on some monitors, not sure about that.
I have a Lenovo L24q-30 23.8-inch QHD Monitor coming .
It’s 48-75hz VRR .
I have no idea if it’s worth to get the 6800 when available .
System build will be for MSFS 2020 only .
3600/5600 3060/6800 3000/3600
If you’re planning a new build, don’t go with a CPU 2 generations old.
The Ryzen 5 5600X is probably the best you can get for a gaming/simming workload right now. The 5800X gives 2 more cores, and might future-proof you a bit. The 5900X and up are just pure overkill for gaming / simming builds.
Go for 3600MHz RAM, it’s pretty much the performance sweet spot to run with Ryzen, without breaking the bank. Can settle for 3200MHz if you need to save some money.
GPU wise, it’s mostly preference, 3060/3070/3080 or RX6800(XT) are great (depending on your budget). Both 3090 and RX6900XT are a complete waste of the extra money.
For MSFS yes, my 3700X pairs horribly with my 3080, constant stuttering and occasional freezing due to less than optimal SC perf at 1440p
