iFly 737 MAX Discussion

Well, if its better than the PMDG and let’s say, about 50$ I will buy it for sure.

Just happened to come across this on YT. Before any stress levels rise, this isn’t a Sim A is better than Sim B post, it’s simply a post that I though some would find interesting since everyone here appreciates high level flight sims. If this is a party foul, just let me know and I’ll delete.

So far this looks pretty solid. I did note a couple streamers yesterday observing some issues with LNAV drawing some really funky, definitely inaccurate paths, especially when a fairly tight turn is involved. However, the plane is still a WIP so that didn’t bother me much.

My bigger concerns have to do with performance. There’s a LOT of eye candy that casual simmers will love but are of really limited utility if you simply want to fly a reasonably accurate desktop simulation of a MAX: fancy, multi-hue cabin lighting; working seatbelt signage; animated toilet seats and covers; etc. Fun to play with a time or two on the ground or in cruise but otherwise just taking up resources. I would make a strong bet that no one flying pre-release courtesy copies yesterday has a mid-range or weaker PC.

That leads me to a second concern: this almost certainly looks to be PC-only and thus unavailable to console customers and those PC folks who prefer to use the Marketplace (yes, some of those folks exist).

Anyway. it looks like a solid step up from what we’ve seen of the new Asobo MAX for FS2024 so I’ll be watching it closely. Just not sure if I will be buying it right away if at all.

Reasonable arguments but I’ll buy it day one because (sometimes) I’m obsessed by replicating RL flights and it’s against my slight autism or whatever it is to choose 737NG instead of MAX

Totally reasonable - everyone is entitled to have fun however they choose.

Personally, my 11700KF + 3070 is getting somewhat long in the tooth and I need to seriously consider upgrade options once FS2024 launches and I see how things look. I am going to wait for real performance numbers from real people on a variety of systems before I buy. If it’s as tough on performance as I suspect, I will likely hold at least until I buy a new CPU/motherboard/memory, and even then I may wait until after I add a new GPU further down the line.

I have an inferior HW config to yours (I’m limited to gaming laptops, i9-10980HK + 2080 on my current one) and personally I’m not afraid of MSFS2024 as it must also run on Xbox and I don’t mind doing some downtuning in the graphics settings. It also depends on when iFly’s MAX will be released. If it’s within next two weeks I’m sure I won’t be able to resist. After that I’ll probably wait to see comparisons to Asobo’s MAX (even though I doubt it will be better than iFly’s as it looks like a really high def addon).

iFly goes back to FS9 days and was always considered the better airplane than PMDG, but had some draconian security features than turned people off when FSX came around that hurt them.

I still have an issue le laptop with FS9 and the iFly 737 on it.

I actually feel the opposite, if something is going to make me buy my second 737 (after PMDG) then it has to have extra features in order to entice me.

But yes, performance is always going to be a consideration for most.

Mate, all of those years… Wow hard to think it was four years ago when all we had was, the a320neo and all of those sacrilege crimes against autistic humanity and flying her with Ryanair, Alaskan and jet2 liveries :rofl:

I was waiting for the PMDG version. However since they have now delayed theirs my attention has been drawn to this over the last day or so, I simply haven’t been paying attention to this one since I thought PMDGs was close.

However I’m pretty pleased with what I’m seeing from the iFly Max. It will be a definate purchase for me now I’ll have no need for PMDGs if it ever shows up (I doubt it at this point with a Asobo version in 2024 and now this one).

Seems like the fortunes of flightsim are about to strike again. We were A320 heavy for awhile, now it will be 737 heavy. Soon we will all be broke with all the Airbus and Boeings coming for 2024, and realatively soon it seems!

We really do have an almost embarrassment of riches in aircraft, finally! It’s taken 4 years, but there are now aircraft that span the gamut in terms of eras, complexity, and simulation depth, and from a variety of healthy and active developers. We all will always have individual likes and dislikes, and preferences for one developer or another, but the mere fact we have so much choice is fantastic.

Personally, if performance is okay on rigs similar to mine (and the price is right), I am likely to buy this one eventually. But it’s not going to be a Day 1 buy until I see more people flying it and discussing performance on mid-range systems.

Yup, MSFS really does have a nice selection of high quality aircraft now. Probably because 90% to 95% of the 3rd party developers are with MSFS now. This means MSFS will get the best add-ons as time progresses. It’s a good time to be an MSFS user, and I think MSFS 2024 will make the 3rd party development scene even more lopsided in favor of MSFS.

Yeah I think you’re correct. I stuck with XP for quite awhile and was my preferred sim for years after I left FSX. I thought that I would would fly both XP and 2020 when 2020 came out - but found myself simply not using XP anymore. I revisit it ever so often but multiscreen 4k performance is terrible.

Since we’ve seen more and more dev jump over to MSFS and I don’t think it’ll slow down. With 2024 listening to the SDK developer stream they are opening up quite a bit of things from design all the way through to opening various functionalities for planes that will make some super interesting addons in the coming years.

I’m excited, the future is looking super bright for simmers and it’s only getting better from here!

After watching reviews from very reliable streamers I will buy the iFly Max on day 1, will not even touch the default Max coming with MS 2024 and will not even care if PMDG ever releases their 737 Max or not. This looks next level to PMDG 73Ng series and up there with Fenix A320/319/321 series when it comes to innovation. I bought their 737-600 and 777-300er (which are quite good) but that’s it for me buying PMDG products until they release their 747-400.

Yeah, I agree. The XP 12 user numbers on SteamDB have more or less flatlined over the last year, and worse, SteamDB is showing the user numbers for XP 12 is lower than peak XP 11 user numbers. I have also heard that Just Flight and Thrandra lost money on some of their XP 11 to XP 12 conversion projects. I think there will be more incentives for 3rd party devs to move to MSFS, especially with MSFS 2024, because of the market size that MSFS 2024 may create (ie. Fly X Simulations switching to MSFS after developing for XP, and choosing to release Jersey airport for MSFS despite there being other versions of Jersey airport for MSFS, rather than developing a new airport for XP 12).

Back to the topic though, I welcome iFly’s first product in MSFS. I think it will be great, and I look forward to the next project that iFly does for MSFS 2024!

For those who are not on Discord… Flight1 released a statement about the release date yesterday (probably because they don’t hear anything else than a question when it’s going to be released ):

Regarding the release date: There are too many (and creative) speculations regarding taxiway signs, and any other signals regarding the release date. Here is what is going on. They have been working overtime on overtime on this. They want it right! As mentioned in other posts, once all the pieces (parts, assemblies) come together and fit reasonably well, we will release it. To set a release date would put undue stress on those already stressed! I would say that is all of us  . We do not want that. However, we would not have released it to early adopters such as content creators if the release was not soon. But do not read soon as eminent… but it could be. We do not know for sure. We are getting those assemblies in every day. So do stay tuned, and check up here instead of making speculations on dates. I assure you we want it out more than you do! Thanks.

Tbh, their 777 is quite nice, including the cabin. Much better than the 737. But yeah, they are miles behind Fenix!

It’s off-topic here but can you elaborate a bit more why let’s say PMDG 777 is “miles behind” Fenix A320? I fly both and they’re completely different airplanes.

I wouldn’t say miles behind but I would say “behind”

No working circuit breakers, that’s pretty bad for an aircraft of this level. Cabin & graphics aren’t up there with Fenix. Very slow on updates, generally more bugs. No efb for a long time, no weather radar.

Fenix has come out very polished & in depth right from day 1. You can rl qualify on some of the avionics Fenix uses.

I still love PMDG but am definitely looking forward to the ifly.

Just to mention 2 things, to not derail this topic: e.g. graphics (textures) and EFB. I do love flying the 777, so it is certainly a good one!
