We are aware that many of you are anxious about the status of development for MSFS 2024, Service Pack (SP) 1 for the MAX for MSFS 2020, the MAX8-200, etc.
As a matter of longstanding practice, we do not announce projected dates for release or updates to our software, but we wanted you to know in general terms where we are with these important matters.
First, MSFS2024. As you may have read elsewhere, this new sim is currently very problematic for developers of high fidelity addons. Some developers have stopped work until Microsoft/Asobo are able to get MSFS 2024 to a state in which they can successfully operate. As it stands now, it’s one step forward then one or two steps back when a MSFS 2024 update releases. We are working on a MAX compatibility update (not a MSFS 2024 native product). And of course there will be bug fixes in the MSFS 2024 version of the MAX8, so long as they are compatible with that sim. We are making progress; but it’s taking an inordinate amount of time and, frankly, it’s frustrating for us.
SP 1 for the MSFS 2020 MAX8 will include the compatible bug fixes from MSFS 2024, the 8-200 and cabin announcements. As we’ve said, SP1 will come after the compatibility update for MSFS 2024.
Beyond the information in this post there will be no further updates on the timing for MSFS 2024 compatibility, SP1, the 8-200, or any new features. We can assure you that work is ongoing for all of those projects, which does take time. When updates are ready, we will post in this channel.
Yeah I can see how that could be an issue. Several people in the dev discord have suggested the ability to disable the complex cabin, and I think that’s a good idea. It’s spectacularly well done, but let’s face it, a lot of us played with it a few times and don’t go back there much now. Swapping to low res textures and non functional items back there would have to free some resources.
As far as next update timing, I know nothing about that but I can say definitively that much work is ongoing on both 2024 support and the SP1 update that will contain many improvements suggested by folks who know the airplane IRL. I’ve been nothing but impressed by this team. I will admit again that I’ve had to choke on my initial words about this release, where I was ready to dismiss it as a pretty cabin and a cockpit with big displays but lacking fidelity. I was really, REALLY wrong about that.
Further, the attitude of the team in terms of receptiveness to input… Well. Let’s just say it’s… Refreshing.
Oh yeah, this bird flies and sounds like a dream. Greater system depth would make this far superior to any sort of competition! And of course a modern EFB tablet… but let’s leave that alone.
I do not own this plane. Would be interested in hearing how this compares to the PMDG 737 system wise. You mentioned a need for deeper system depth, whats lacking in your opinion?
You can search for real life 737 pilots reviews on YouTube, they are super impressed by it but name numerous missing features which I can’t recall off the top of my head. Overall I’d say it beats the PMDG 737 in every other aspect. Definitely worth a purchase.
I think both the iFly 737 Max and the PMDG 737 both have their strengths. I like the max’s bigger glass (obviously a plane design thing, not a dev implementation). The PMDG feels better to hand fly and taxi, IMO. (I’m not a RWP so can’t comment on real-life handling).
The PMDG also handles Sim Rate 4X and maybe 8x, but the IFly can barely handle course turns at 2X, if that’s important to you.
I fly them both based on whatever I feel like at the time, or else pick a flight route from my VA, and then choose 737-800 or MAX8 accordingly.
I do not personally believe it’s lacking systems depth compared to the PMDG. Each plane has small inaccuracies but I would not say they’re any greater in the iFly. What IS noticeably different is the developers’ intent to continue to improve the product, vs the other 73 that languished in a troubled state for a couple years despite much input on needed changes.
I get the sense that this narrative of “lacking systems depth” comes mostly from the videos of a guy who only flew 737s for a short time, never upgraded on them, and has a tendency to make definitive statements in his videos that are sometimes in error - and who then gets very defensive if corrected. The sim community has a tendency to look to him as an authority because of the production quality of his videos, and don’t get me wrong, he makes a lot of good stuff… But he’s not quite the 737 authority some folks see him as.
But yeah, I’ve run through most of the failures in the iFly as well as putting it through some pretty complex scenarios and I do not find lacking systems depth (10+ yr 737 ca here, for reference.)
Edit: as far as flight and ground handling models, I prefer the iFly hands down. But that’ll be personal preference; no sim aircraft really flies “correctly”.
I currently own the Ifly 737.Every time on my approach when lowering the flaps soon as I hit the 40 degree mark all the electrical systems shuts dow. It happens on every flight . Can anyone help me?
I personally have never tried landing the MAX with flaps 40, this seems like a question for the Flight1 discord. Try flaps 30 next time and let us know what happens.
I also fly the pmdg 737 ,well i use too until i purchased the ifly 737 wow i love that plane .im not going back to pmdg. But flaps at 40 is no problem with the pmdg 737. So now i use flaps at 30 with ifly max with no problem. Soon i hit 40 everything shuts down except the engines.
No no other key binds. I also fly the pmdg 737 with no problems with flaps at 40. But now i tried flaps at 30 with ifly with no problems. I guess flaps at 30 isn’t much of an issue i can work with it . Maybe its a bug with Ifly ?
I’ve done an awful lot of flaps 40 landings with the iFly, testing Southeast Alaska approaches, and it has always worked fine. This isn’t an iFly bug; there has to be some kind of hardware or key bind conflict for you. How are you extending the flaps to 40? If you’re using any hardware or a key command, maybe try one where you just use the mouse to click the flap handle in the cockpit for extension, and don’t touch your normal flap extension key or hardware, and see what happens.
Hi, im using the Saitek throttle quadrant. I always extend the flaps in increments, but lately i been only setting the flaps to 30 with no issues. My next flight i will use the keyboard instead to see what happens. Thank you for your help.
