iFly 737 MAX is coming to MSFS

I don’t think they’re inviting people to buy this purely for FS2024 compatibility. They’re offering it primarily to those who bought it to fly in 2020 (where it’s generally brilliant) and letting us install the experimental 2024 build while the sim updates catch up to what Asobo and MS promised.

Yeah but I’m running solely 2024 these days. I don’t see a downside to going with the experimental build, assuming whenever they release the final 2024 version, I’ll be able to upgrade to it.

Am I missing something big here? The main thing I want to be sure is that the throttle issue was addressed, that sounded like a pretty significant glitch. If it hasn’t, I’ll just sit tight and wait.

One of the updates months ago added in controller override settings, similar to what PMDG does with its aircraft. I haven’t had a throttle issue since.

Cool, but hardly existential. A small clutch of MSFS '24 users have reported that they have been able to already for a while use the plane in '24 just as many are using the PMDG 737 unofficially (sadly, the ifly Max never worked for me) and they reported that it works very well OTW.

Picked up the plane up today, because I wanted a Boeing simulation for shorter legs in MSFS 2024. I didn’t have the patience to wait for the 737NG from PMDG to arrive. I’ve been somewhat disappointed. Not with the simulation aspect, but with a lot of quality of live items that are important to me. I am using MSFS exklusively in VR.

First and foremost: The performance is really bad compared to other complex planes. This ist the only addon I own that is limited by the main thread regardless of phase of flight in VR with a 45FPS frame limiter. Sadly this leads to a lot of annoying stutters.

Second: The cockpit interactions are a pain in VR. The collission mesh is’n right for a lot of surfaces. The mouse pointer hovers way to high over the CDU which makes entering anything in the FMS a pain. Also, instead of using left click on the switches with just two positions to toggle them, I have to use my mousewheel. I am getting old and muscle memory is a thing.

Third: The time compression isn’t working all that well. The plane keeps banking to the left and right of the magenta line so it reverts back to 1x and if I dare to put the simulator manually in 4x it’s game over for the autopilot and it just banks untill everyone in the back got a second but unwanted meal service served by themself.

I like the customization options. But the EFB is something for an aquired taste. I get that this is what a lot of Pilots have to work with. This isn’t part of the criticism, but ■■■■ that thing is annoying to use.

Just to be certain, if I only have 2024, I can still purchase this and simply opt to use the experimental 2024 version, right?

From watching a YT video on the new 2024 version, looks like the checklist display on the center console (which I had never been aware of, it wasn’t present in the NG) doesn’t work in the new version.

To my knowledge, there has never been a functional ECL in this aircraft, even in 2020.

I only have 2024 installed and bought it yesterday - no problems. I absolutely adore this aircraft.

Be wild! Go for it.

Not sure if anyone saw Kip’s stream yesterday with the 2024 Experimental version, but he almost blew a gasket, wasting a couple hours trying to work around an antivirus false positive with some of the files associated with Navigraph integration.

Kip is such a low key, positive guy, it was different seeing him so frustrated.

Yeah. Had the same problem. Couldn’t get simbrief flight plan import working because of it.

I saw it and told him to it bc I couldn’t share a link to the solution - there’s a specific executable buried in a file that you have to exclude from antivirus to get it to work. Just blanket excluding the whole folder doesn’t seem to work. I ran into the same problem once after one of the aircraft updates last fall and that’s the solution.

He obviously didn’t google it and just got more and more frustrated.

Agreed, it’s awesome. I have already made three flights in it in FS24 and I haven’t encountered a single problem.

I have tried a flight today and unfortunately the aircraft froze my sim, firstly the aircraft just froze in midair but everything else worked (pressing escape and then going back to the flight worked) but then about 10 mins later the entire sim froze and I had to use task manager to quit out. Definitely ‘experimental’ lol.

I saw that too, and didn’t get a good impression of the aircraft. But then I saw flightdeck2sim fly it and he couldn’t speak highly enough about it, he loves it.

So now I don’t know what to believe. I think I’ll hold till it’s no longer ‘experimental’, that’s for sure

I am pretty sure PMDG are working on a pretty amazing (door) simulation. Takes time.
No in all seriousness: They’ve lost the race as far as I am concerned

I understand why they (PMDG) took the decisions they took, they do make reasonable sense. But it definitely means they’re out of the picture for what feels like a really long time, when it comes to a decent 737.

I’m sad about it, I loved their 2020 version and flew it a lot. Quite bummed I’ll be waiting for ages to be able to fly it in 2024

PMDG lost the race when Fenix came out and showed what is possible in MSFS . And now the iFly is out and hopefully doing more Boeing aircraft. Well…

What race is that exactly?

Competition I guess, however I don’t see a race for Boeing aircraft (somewhat unfortunately). There is one 737, one 737 Max, one 777, no decent 787, waiting for the 747, 757 and 767. Only in the Airbus segment there are multiple developers doing the same aircraft.
