@MeridianOwl4306, I’ve got one. Takes daily’s, weekly’s, and monthly’s, all unattended, and all incremental so not using stupid amounts of disk space. They didn’t help. I don’t know why they didn’t help exactly, but they didn’t.
@Lungho9214, they had me by the short and curlies and they knew it. My choices were to leave or pay, and since I have zero desire to leave (I’ve never used any other sim), and it was a (relatively) small amount of money (I’ve lost more playing Blackjack in 15 minutes before, and I neither gamble often nor big), I just said screw it.
I AM making good on my threat to go public, but I’m just some anonymous guy on an Interweb forum, one owned by MS at that. (Well, semi-anonymous, I guess, it’s pretty obvious my name is Kevin, and I’m from somewhere in the Tampa Bay area…) I can, and will, take my case to Reddit, Avsim, and other places, but few will read it, and fewer will care. And it’s not something that you’ll ever even see on the consumer segment of your late local news, much less on CNN, so nobody cares.
And I get screwed over. I swear, them mean nasty rich corporations holding us little guys back!!!
Glad you’re back in but what happened is so unfortunate! I hope Asobo somehow see this thread and launch some kind of investigation. Imagine this could have happened to countless other people who either just gave up or didn’t bother to speak up.
You’re more than likely right, but I’m glad you posted anyway. Sometimes legitimate dirty laundry needs to be aired. You did it in a very tasteful way, which I appreciate and respect. I’m sure I’m not alone in this thought.
In the end, you’re happy and I guess that’s all that matters. Happy flying.
This is a very good advise indeed. What software are you using for this?
I use the Macrium Reflect Free Version 7…I know that they should release the version 8 sometime soon…It has saved me a lot of headache.
Hello CptLucky,
I use Acronis True Image. Beware, the newest version (TIH2021) includes a cloning option that I do not use or trust. The newest versions also include malware detection that is currently loaded without user approval. I use my TIH2018 version that does not have any forced built-in malware protection… I have noticed on the Acronis forums that a lot of people are unhappy with the malware protection that is loaded and activated without user agreement from the newest version. I expect that to change in the near future… I have had excellent luck with disaster recovery but as you probably know, the only good backup is one that you have tested and tested. If you do not test your recovery, it will surely fail you when you need it most.
Regards and stay safe.
Thanks for posting @KevyKevTPA and @MeridianOwl4306. I was thinking that I was the only one having to rebuild my machine. In my case, I kept getting MSFS crashes that were resulting in a hard reset. Whenever that happened, I couldn’t boot Windows, but I could always boot to safe mode. For a while I was able to get back in by deleting my NVdia driver and the X-box app, but I finally got to the point where even those things wouldn’t allow me to boot Windows normally. After that, I spent a day trying every trick I could think of to avoid wiping my machine, but eventually I succumbed to the inevitable. It took another two days to get my machine back. I had upgraded my machine to add a 1gb SSD and so when I reinstalled I put MSFS on that drive. However it turns out that there is a nasty bug where if MSFS isn’t on the Windows drive, it won’t let you copy anything out of the community folder. I found that out after reinstalling several of my add-ons and then trying to move them out of Community because I use MSFS_AddonsLinker. As a result, I got to reinstall MSFS not once, but twice!
Given your ordeal with reclaiming your add-ons, I’m now counting myself lucky. I’m sure sorry to hear that you aren’t receiving the level of customer service that you should. I was fortunate–I have an MS Store install, so all of the add-ons I bought through MS Marketplace (prior to realizing what a bad idea that was) were available, as were all of my other add-ons that I got from various places. I’ve gotten in the habit of backing up the add-on zip files, which helped. Also, I have a bunch of stuff from SimMarket, and that site keeps track of everything you’ve bought along with license keys, which is super handy.
The other nice thing was that I didn’t lose any of my logged hours, achievements, etc. when I reinstalled so apparently those must get backed up to the cloud.
nobody cares about the experiences of one guy on the internet. You’re gonna need to spend quite a bit of penny to actually make a peep these days
I bought a car from a proper car dealer (not hole in the wall place) 4 months ago and they still haven’t registered it. I’m ■■■■■■ because i’m about to be paying on a car i can’t drive (my state only allows 2 temp plates). I have plenty of ways to handle the situation and i had considered a “scorched earth” campaign such as that which you describe to ruin their reputation. Then i realized, nobody cares. People will sympathize with my situation, but just i’m going against a major automobile manufacturer, you’re going against freakin Microsoft.
You want to bother microsoft with your problem? Find yourself a good lawyer and start suing like a real American. You’ll more than likely settle out of court (as would i with my problem with Mazda) but at least you’d get favorable results (refunds, replacement licenses etc). If you’re just doing it out of spite, as i said, find yourself a good lawyer.
you said it yourself, your just some anonymous guy on an interweb forum and few will care. Again, sorry you got screwed, but lots of people get screwed these days (imagine being an hedge fund manager at Melvin Capital).
Enjoy your flight
