Hi there,
I’m interested in buying the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB Any thoughts? Any help or info is greatly appreciated. TIA
I recently bought the 4T one, I don’t have anything against it One of the best consumer grade M.2 SSD. I’m using it in a USB4.0 case but without respective ports on my machine, I cannot get the full speed of it anyway. When limited to 20Gbps it is not very hot.
Unless there’s a reason to limit yourself to 2TB and this is for the sim, you’re better off buying a larger capacity drive. Even if you’re not moving to FS 2024, the older sim is scheduled to remain in-lifecycle for several years more, and thus more Sim Updates at a minimum are forthcoming.
Unfortunately, financially I can only afford the 2TB…
you may be able to pry open the drive case and stuff it in your machine. This way you won’t be bottlenecked through your USB-C. faster load times, better general performance.
However i understand if your machine doesn’t have any free slots on the mobo either way. Most modern motherboards come with at least two m.2
Anyway OP i have a 980 Pro 1TB and runs the game fine. I don’t get every airport and plane under the sun and only have the US World updates so a 4TB would be overkill for me and i’d just load up other games on it in the end. In total i’d say just under half the drive is OS and MSFS alone including addons
Well, the good news is the base sim with a bit of trimming will occupy an eighth of that drive. With judicious installation and thoughtful curation of your Add-Ons, you won’t be too constrained for a little while.
Well, I actually bought the case specifically for the new SSD so I can carry it between my two sim PCs without any other investment. The case itself costs almost half a TB’s price.
As far as NVME SSDs go, the 990 Pro is one of the best. I have had a 2 TB version since Christmas 2023. I use it for Windows and other programs, but have the Community and Official folders on a hard drive. The 990 Pro is 49% full at the moment, but there are many non-flight-sim ptograms on it. The computer boots very quickly. MSFS starts slowljy, but I can live with that until I can get a second SSD.
I have Samsung NVMe drives and haven’t had any issues with them on motherboards for Intel processors and currently on motherboard for AMD CPU.
After installing new nvme you need to check if there is new firmware available.

I’m running two of them and they have been great.
As @TenPatrol says, if you get one run the firmware update.
got 2x 4TB working fine
