I have a feeling they don’t really care about players—or about realistic simulation. Flight Simulator is great overall, but the weather—arguably one of the most important parts of real-world flying—is still not good. Sometimes it feels like they’re aiming more for a casual toy than a true sim. I really hope they improve it, but the question is: when?

Why does the message that they are bound by their Meteoblue contract, and NDA not seem to land with many simmers? Do they believe that this is a lie? It has been said multiple times by Jorg. And still many rather want to keep pushing against this, as if they never heard of this limitation, and even saying that ‘they don’t care’, ‘don’t give a hoot’, ‘disrespectful to the player base’, ‘rather want to make a game than a good sim’.
With all respect, that is what I call disrespectful.

Why? Jorg has officially said this in the Developer streams. We are just repeating this info here.
Why is it that some people expect people from Asobo to partake in this discussions? Have they ever posted one single comment here? No. Why don’t they trust the word of fellow simmers, who come here every day to read and inform, and who have watched every minute of every developer stream and interview with MS and Asobo?
By the way, I agree that there need to be one or two weather oriented SUs.

Well, if they still can’t budge on opening the API, then at least Asobo should expand the existing WXR to add more functionality such as tilt, gain and thunderstorm detection. And maybe have Working Title develop different styles for the most common weather radars used in general and commercial aviation, such as the inbuilt ones featured in the Garmin suites, the Collins WXR-2100 and Honeywell RDR-4000.

Not sure if you guys knew this one alraedy but there’s a website called e-metar.com that basically gives you METAR but enhanced with operational stuff like:

Runway in use based on real traffic detection
-
Critical NOTAMs (rwy closed, ils u/s, apt closed)
-
Available runways
-
Go Around detection in windy conditions
It’s like having D-ATIS everywhere, not just at big airports.
Anyway I think it would be nice if this could be integrated into MSFS instead of just regular METAR. Maybe even getting that on our FMC as a D-ATIS message request?
The site has a free tier and apparently apps are coming soon too. Has an enterprise API ready so technically it could be integrated.
Just thought I’d share, would love to see this kind of thing in the sim.

Wow interesting! It would be a nice feature if we could ask an E-METAR from our FMC or at least upgrade from METAR to this one inside MSFS

This shows the level of bureaucracy that has taken roots in the development of MSFS and explains the lack of outcome generally
It must have taken them more time to report what they’ve done, than actually doing it. Adding 5 variables in an API?

No it isn’t.
I am very disappointed with the clouds in FS2024, especially regarding their appearance and formation. In my opinion, they do not look realistic at all: they often seem too “constructed,” with unnatural shapes that almost resemble a cinematic or even artificial style, closer to a visual effect than to reality.
In a flight simulator, the weather aspect is essential for immersion, but in FS2024 this element is really lacking. The clouds do not convey that sense of depth, variability, and realism that you would expect from a product of this level.
On the other hand, after testing X-Plane 12, I can say that the cloud rendering is much more convincing. Their formation appears more natural and dynamic, and the entire weather system helps create a far more realistic and immersive environment.
FS2024 should seriously work on this aspect, improving the visual quality and, above all, the realism of the clouds. Because a flight simulator shouldn’t feel like a movie… it should make you feel like you’re truly flying.

I find myself using X-Plane 12 more and more. And less of MSFS 2020. I won’t buy MSFS 2024.

Don’t get me wrong I like using it too (just finished a flight in the X-Crafts Embraer Legacy 650) but that sim has it’s fair share of problems also including with weather. Sometimes the clouds look completely unnatural and sometimes the weather is way off in general.

Can you please share any website or app giving METAR + RWY IN USE kind of like ATIS? EGSS for example doesnt have ATIS so you tell me.

Well that’s the thing there are tons that don’t. Take KRNM for example. It doesn’t have a D-ATIS and isn’t on that website and therefore isn’t like having a D-ATIS everywhere. Only a small fraction of airports in the US actually have D-ATIS. We have something like 80 airports in the US with D-ATIS and we have over 500 towered airports here in the US. Furthermore we have around 20,000 non-towered airports. I’m looking at that website and it shows that 792 airports are supported and that’s worldwide.
I really don’t understand why Microsoft MUST get their weather data from MetoBlue. There are so many free government sources to obtain accurate weather data. Saying weather in 2024 has been disappointing is a major understatement.
