Importing FSX Model

FS9 was really the best. When it came to FSX, the person that made the transition, if I recall, did have to make a lot of changes.
Of course a modern cockpit takes away the character on the D104. I used it quite a bit in both FS9 and FSX. I still have them on separate PCs and occasionally use them.

Of my age I do like WW2 and Cold War era planes and airfields and I do like a bit of nostalgia.

Think I’ve modded as much as possible without major modification to the FS9 model. I like to remain compliant under the US Fair Use Act to share the file for education and research purposes, on a non-profit basis. Here’s the summary.

  1. I started with the FS9 model by Derek Palmer V2, which is what I used in the original screenshots. This version has the passenger stairs and tail stand, both I cannot remove in-game without removing the passenger seats, floor bed cockpit and engine cowling as they are all modelled as one structure. Without disassembling and dissecting it, I went with V1 which doesn’t have those structures.

  2. One major defect is the propeller spin animation. In FS9, this is controlled by animation ratio / speed. In FSX, this is done via 3 xml codes creating a still, slow and blurred effect. Because this is a FS9 model, it doesn’t contain the xml codes, and therefore, without major work to redo the modelling, the propeller spin remains at low speed. This remains problematic unless you can share the FSX version (can’t find it on the web; only find payware version).

  3. Paired with KA350i panel. All buttons / switches work except for wipers. One complication with this pairing is that the DH-104 is a piston-based engine, while the KA350i is Turboprop. Different powerplant required additional tweaking to the engine and aerodynamic settings. Since I’m no expert in discerning both powerplants, further FDE tweaking may be needed.

  4. Flaps and Aileron animation were incompatible with MSFS. Sequencing and animation logic were corrected. This could be saved.

  5. Glass for the cockpit and passengers were tweaked to display transparency correctly. The result is a more superior glass effect.

  6. MFS default lighting customized for this aircraft. The result is a more superior lighting effect.

  7. Ground Service Equipment (GSE). If you are in a full service airport and parked in a ramp, you can request ramp connection (stair truck), to open the aircraft door. However, I kept the stair truck away from the fuselage. Note sometimes you have to request twice, once to load the GSE model the second to activate the request.

  8. Livery repaint quality is low resolution. If you have find a 4K texture, the display will be better as I’ve optimized the model to showcase the MSFS polished and superior look.

At this point the aircraft is flyable, and you can perform a Cold and Dark startup, day or night. But as you can see, this is far from a perfect, and the conversion process is complex. At the very least, you have to compromise 3 major areas: (1) Forgo your legacy cockpit, (2) propeller not spinning correctly at high speed and (3) accept a different powerplant. As time goes by with better SDK, hopefully we’ll be in a better place to import FSX models.

If you have the FSX model that someone else upgraded in the past, please share the link / file. The FSX model would have likely fixed the propeller spin issue.

Otherwise, please PM me your email and I’ll send over the files for you to further research and learn the conversion methods.

I have a little emergency here, my mouth has locked up and my GP is on the case. I have to go now to pick up medications, etc. I will of course come back to you, once the situation has calmed down.

Take care, my fellow simmer friend. We’ll be in touch via email.

I have the zip for v2 and the folder for FSX with all the files within it. I don’t have the info for what was done for the FSX version. Can I send these to you whilst I have them to hand?

That was fast… I just sent you an email with the FS9 converted package.

You can reply to that email and attach the fsx folder zipped and I can continue testing for you.

Thanks.

To big to send as an attachment, but Google sent it to Google Drive!

Thanks. This is a much better model. The propeller spin is a lot better. See if I can further tweak this. Also, had to fix the same aileron and flap issues but that’s fine. When I’m done I’ll send you the new mdl via email file to replace.

After more testing and evaluation, the model is still not fully using FSX characteristics and therefore, the underlying propeller issues persists. I’ll send over via email the files to replace since this model is still better than the V1.

Merry Christmas! Hope you enjoy the imperfect conversion.

Hi, mouth firmly locked closed and everything is liquidised!
Have been flying and noted that the tail fin movement is reversed and there are no engine sounds = did you find thid?

Hi there - glad to hear your personal well-bring have stabilized.

I’ll look into the tail fin - not surprising given that the aileron and flaps movements were also reversed. Should have thought to check the tail fin as well.

As for the sound I did have sound which is default king air. The sound folder should have 2 files:

  1. Asobo_KingAir350.PC.PCK
  2. sound.xml

I’ll check the sound again just to be sure.

I’ve emailed you the updated file with the tail animation fix.

As for the sound, I confirm that the sound works on my end. Have you resolved it?

Does anyone know how I can increase the green levlers? They say “propellercontrol” if I hover over them

How did you solve the issue with speed tape red dropping to below normal cruise speed?
I’ve got the same problem in TR’s A300 Most things work quite well otherwise

Hey all I got the mod AT 72-600 but from the cockpit view cant see the wings when you look back at them. Is there a way I can fix it or should I wait for the person that made the mod to fix it?

Has anybody had any success importing a Milviz aircraft into the sim? I’ve trying to import their T-38A but it just shows up as an invisible model.

Can someone help me . i have converted some planes but they sinking in the ground or when turn engine the start to spin ?!
