Not sure where to ask for help (posted in the FSX Import Showcase but no response), but after getting 1.9.5 to work with my attempt at importing Thomas Ruth’s wonderful freeware A330 to work in FS2020 with the default A320 default panel merge, I’m down to solving 3 things:
- The speed limit (red speedtape) is correct at low altitude 330 knots, but reduces significantly to 260 knots above transition altitude, which causes the annoying overspeed warning to blare constantly when climbing and cruising at FL. How do I fix this?
- Cold start. The Fuel tanks are OFF despite pressing the buttons. No issues with all other buttons like Batteries, External Power, FBW, APU, etc. Because of this, to get engines to spool to N1 normal, I have to use Auto-start. Using the ignition switch does not work because the Fuel tanks are in “OFF”. Not sure which settings need to be updated to address this. Note the project A320 mod is not installed.
- Autothrottle. The button engages but it does not control the throttle.
I’ve played with aircraft.cfg, .air file settings, etc, but I can’t seem to solve the above 3. I see that someone was able to get default FSX 747 linked to the FS 2020 default 747-8i panel successfully. There must be a way. Would appreciate any and all help. Other than that, everything else like avionics is functioning, and flight dynamics tweaked to A330 specifications (best effort). Thanks fellow simmers!

I believe this has happened since your OP, but check some of the addon/mod webpages as candian mods have released a version of the A330 which is working and uses the Stock A320 panel. I cannot recall tho if It relies upon the A320nx modification by the fly-by-wire team - I know for a fact the A321 does and required a certain version number to be installed.
Canadian mods have pulled the A330, because of authorship issues. They are now creating a whole new A330. They say if you have the previous A330, keep it to yourself. As the A32NX is now constantly updated, it probably won’t help you. Thanks to Clink123.

Thanks for the responses. I posted these questions two months ago when I was still figuring out all the steps to import models and to make them useable. I had figured out the solutions shortly after. I’ve come to learn that modding FSX models is a very involved process, regardless of whether there is an importer tool or not (don’t be fooled). Getting the external model is to display correctly in FSX is only Step 1. Making it flyable from Cold & Dark cockpit to parking at the gate at destination with the baggage cart working is a whole different ball game. Since then, and have completed the Airbus conversions A332-A346, A350 (900 and 1000 variants) and working to complete Dash 8 100 and Q400. And yes, my Airbus 320 cockpit is linked to the updates from A32NX. Its gotten easier to complete the conversion to some degree, but with the Dash, for example, I had to learn the Turboprop powerplant and FDE logic in MSFS 2020 because it does not work the same way at jet engine settings that I’ve been used to. In FSX there was little difference between Jet and Prop.
I have researched how to import fsx aircrafts to msfs, there are some tutorials but for me as noob on this things, there are non which really explane step by step how to do it . I tried the a340 and a400m and C17 ukmil but the cockpit is very bugged. I know I am missing something but don’t know what. I talked with 2 people but one said that he was not converting airplanes anymore. Other said to use the programs. Well for me, try to make one airplane work have been a huge and useless battle. Hope someone one day could convert the C17, a400m and a340 and share

I too have the same problems. I can convert fsx aircraft but throttle control and interiors are a disaster. Need a simple expleination for a old simmer
I have the issue as to how to get the props spinning and for helicopters to get the rotors to turn. Some cockpits are not too encouraging, and certainly for MSFS Legacy Importer, it’s a matter of understanding what the extra fiddly items to tweak are for!

Helicopters would likely not work well because the flight dynamics hasn’t been done in MSFS. As for your prop, when you launch the aircraft on the runway, is/are your props turning? Or are you talking about Cold and Dark startup? Which aircraft did you try to import and which default MSFS 2020 panel did you try to pair it with?
For helicopters, I understand if MS/Asobo have not done the flight dynamics.
For testing props I always start on the runway to see if the props are turning. But, you don’t get to see them spin as they are opaque. These are native FSX, eg., C47/DC3, P51 Mustang, A400M, CV22B etc
When you said “I have issues as to how to get the props spinning…” I thought you meant you could not start the engine (haha totally misunderstood). This is an example of my Dash 8-100 mod. You can see the spin, and is subtle because I lightened the “prop fast” texture (personal taste). The texture properties is set to transparent / alpha to get the spinning effect.
Umm! Where did you adjust the texture properties?
Modelling programs. Most common is Model Converter X.
Is that instead of MSFS Legacy Importer or as well as?
Both are unrelated, so in your case, it would be “as well as”. I personally don’t use the legacy importer for my mods as I’m familiar with the file format/layout in MSFS. FYI what the current legacy importer does from a texture perspective is convert the format to dds and inverting the images on a bulk basis. It doesn’t address the properties, meaning how the texture behaves in the sim (reflective, transparent, etc).
For a successful FSX import mod, I currently use MCX, GMAX or FSDS (depending on modelling needs), GIMP and Notepad + (to write or edit codes).
This is getting a bit too much and deep for me now in one go. In my 70s and the attentive memory is becoming a little difficult I have to admit! I was a commercial captain at sea until this year and made the right decision to retire. I’ll read up on the other software and see how I get on.
Thanks
Martin
Totally understand. Its a complicate process, as outlined in my earlier post. If the spinning prop is your only issue (I suspect that it is not), let me know the model you’re using and I can convert it for you so it displays correctly in the sim.
Happy Holidays!

Hi, no its not the only issue! My first flight was in a Dove DH104, back in 1952. I have had in FS9 and FSX, so I would like it in MSFS. It has an interesting cockpit. The family, we come from the Channel Islands and regularly flew to Portsmouth from Jersey. Later when I was in the FAA, we had the same plane as well!
Have a safe and Happy Holiday, too
You would likely need to ditch the legacy cockpit and pair it with default MSFS 2020 panel. Since the Dove DH104 is a 2 engine prop, your options are 2 engine prop plane panels like the Diamond DA62, King 350, etc. If the compromise is too great to forgo the legacy DH104 cockpit, you might not be able to have a fully functional plane in MSFS 2020 (gut feeling). Meaning no cold and dark startup, runway launch and free flight mode only.
The King Air 350 would be my first choice.
Not sure which model to use so I tried this old FS9 from this link --> FlightSim.Com - Search Results
Here is the result after some updates to the model and texture properties, fixing transparency and reflection attributes that you likely encountered.
But notice the animation of the tail stand and ladder is wrong. They should not show at all so its a question updating the animation sequence or deleting them from the model altogether. This is just an example of the modding process. It is complicated. And we don’t know at this point whether it will be successful or not in the end… but I’ll give it a go and see how far we can go.
