Impossible to enter airport terminals with drone camera after SU2/SU3

Using the template below will greatly help the team reproduce the issue and ease the process of fixing it. Before posting, search for an existing report. If you are not sure it’s a bug, please first report in User Support Hub.

3 tags are required - add them in the tag section next to the title above:

  • One for iteration (msfs-2020 or msfs-2024)

  • One for platform (ms-store, steam, xbox , or xcloud)

  • One for aircraft if related (start typing in your aircraft name in the tag section and pick correct option)

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

Before recent updates of MSFS 2024 (Sim Update 2 and later), the drone camera could freely explore some airport terminals interiors (default airports and some add-ons).

Since SU2/SU3, the drone camera collides with the building meshes, making it impossible to enter terminals — the camera is pushed up to the roof or blocked outside.

This feels like a regression, because exploring interiors with the drone was possible before, and was a nice feature for immersion and for checking scenery quality.

Coordinate or location of issue:

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Launch MSFS 2024.

  2. Load any airport with interior modeling (default or add-on).

  3. Switch to Drone/Showcase camera.

  4. Try to move the camera inside the terminal.

→ Camera gets stuck on the roof or outside wall, cannot enter interior

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? No

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

RX 6400

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

I’m only using the “Developer Mode” and I noticed recently (likely with the SU3/1.5.27.0) that had been added a new option in” Developer Camera Settings” called “Collide with scenery objects”.
What you can try as workaround is to briefly switch to Developer Mode in the “Advanced Options” of the General Settings and untick, in the Camera menu/Developer Camera Settings, the “Collide with scenery objects”. After that revert to normal mode.
Hope it helps.

I’ll try tomorrow, thank you !

Hi, thanks for your suggestion
I checked the Developer Camera Settings and the option “Collide with scenery objects” was already unticked. Unfortunately, the issue persists: the drone camera still collides with terminal roofs/walls and cannot enter interiors.

This makes me think it might not be a settings issue but rather a regression introduced in SU3 (1.5.27.0). Could you please confirm if this change was intentional, or if it should still be possible to explore interiors with the drone?

Thanks again for your help!

I don”t think we can call this a regression because this option has been added on purpose, but it’s seems a little buggy. When I activates the option, sometimes I can enter in a building and sometimes I can’t. It also seems to depend on the construction materials (?). I also don’t get the same results at different heights above the ground.

Same issue for me, they ruined the drone camera again by adding in the collision box for scenery like in FS2020. IDK why this is needed, it is os annoying when trying to move the camera around airports and the camera just freezes when trying to enter a building. Please fix this!

Any word from the team on when will this regression be addresed?

This affects my enjoyment of airports and sceneries with interior modeling.

With collide with scenery objects on in the dev mode developer camera settings in conjunction with the showcase camera, I’m bumped up to the roof due to mesh collisions being used on the terminal interiors just like with MSFS 2020 in MSFS 2024, ugh with this regression!

With collide with scenery objects off with the showcase camera, all OK.

Example at the excellent TFFJ by SLH Sim Designs:

Has there been any word from Asobo about this regression?

Maybe something we could ask for the next dev stream.

I still haven’t seen any words from Asobo. I hope they’ll fix it for the next SU.

Happens with some parts of WU20 handcrafted airports like this spot at RJFR:

Though no such issues with parts of the RJFR terminal interior.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Same thing happening in msfs2020. When i try to look around using drone camera, it jumps up on to the roof. I cant attach a video coz i am a new user

Still not addressed by Asobo yet it seems-hoping for a fix in SU5.

Being able to drone through terminal buildings was a great feature used a lot. Losing this ability was in my opinion a retrograde step. Please address and fix the issue thanks.

No word from Asobo still even though the latest SU4 beta fixed a different regression-Fixed a regression where the sim will hang when zooming in and trying to load into airports with a high Terrain Level of Detail Setting in the Northern US.

Wishing the next beta before SU4 final would fix this annoying regression with the drone camera which ruins my enjoyment of airport interiors, forcing me to use the Developer Camera with collide with scenery objects off in dev camera settings in dev mode as a workaround until Asobo fixes this drone camera regression.

I am not experiencing this issue. Perhaps it’s only certain airports.
