Flight dynamics of the Guimbal Cabri G2 are not realistic. There are several issues:
- The impuls strength to yaw when increasing or decreasing collective is not strong enough.
- In flight when lowering collective the nose should go down and up if increasing
- Auto rotation is not working: When lifting the collective in the end the helicopter yaws left or right depending on collective position, but in reality there is no such impuls as the engine is not the main power anymore (airflow is).
Thats far from what I expect from a helicopter model. Not to mention the annoying Throttle/Governor-bug which is still not fixed after monthes.
I just purchased a complete set of helicopter controls. Other than the Cabri, what model do you suggest I use to learn the basics of controlling a helicopter without relying on automation, or becoming frustrated by a lack of progress?
I don’t need or want to learn autorotation, or even worry about completely accurate cyclic or collective behavior. I just want to learn to hover, fly a pattern, and land. Once I learn and get very comfortable with those things, I’ll move on to a more realistic model. According to many, the Cabri is the best model to start with.
Yes, fly the cabri.
Its has less issues then the others and actually do what you tell it to do.
It can do the usual helicopter manouvers that you do, many of the others you cant.
If you want a more lively one the cowan H125 is the one to get, maybe the new R22, but have not bought it myself yet so not sure but seems to be up there with the best.

Use the cabri. No doubt about that. It’s a question of perspective: I’m a former Cabri pilot and such details do matter to me. It’s fun flying and the basic question is just how close to reality a simulation wants to be. I’d expect more from Microsoft as XPlane clearly does have a better flight model, but lacks in beauty.
I just want this issue to be addresed as I think 90% is not good enough.
If you want to learn to fly and not plan to train for real helicopter flying then MSFS2020 will do and allow you to have a great insight into aviation.

Understood. I was approaching it from the perspective of using it as a freeware training helicopter. I can certainly see why you, as a Cabri pilot IRL, would have issues with the realism. It seems that many Asobo freeware aircraft have the same issue, and we rely on 3rd party payware to fill that void.
It would be nice if all the Asobo freeware aircraft were 100% accurate, but we differ in our opinion as to whether that’s possible (or even desirable.)
Happy flying!

The Cabri is really good, and it’s already in the sim. If you don’t mind purchasing a 3rd party addon, the Cowansim R22 is really good also. As a current Robinson rated PPL I can attest that it does most maneuvers just like the real thing. I agree with Sim though. 90% is just not good enough. Especially for helicopters. There is something in the friction of the rotor disk that is off in the MSFS flight model. Oh, and the governor/throttle issues need attention too. Hopefully Asobo keeps working to improve the FM and it is better in MSFS 2024.
The CS R22 autos properly, without weird torque effects not under power. You still can’t auto without turning the gov off though.
