Improve Floating Lights

The floating city lights look terrible, they are too high and there are lights placed over objects and areas that would never have lighting.

Would be great to improve the lighting system and use actual objects to emit the lights. Like street lamps, buildings. The way it is in the real world.

Edit. Was playing around with the sdk after some discussions with other users in here and this is how the sim can look without the floating orbs

If MSFS2024 can get Streetlamps it wil look 100% better and more realistic feeling to fly over City !

In the early days of playing Prepar3D and FSX, we had poles for street and airport lights all around the world. It made the simulator look much more realistic, especially when coming in for landing at night.

Right now, many lights in MSFS2024 look like they are floating with no poles attached. I think simply adding basic poles or lines to the lights would improve immersion a lot, and it probably would not hurt performance much at all.

Please make this happen — it sounds like a pretty easy fix and would make night flying look much better.

Thanks for your time! <3

Wouldn’t that affect TLOD?

Would probably affect performance for sure

no need someting comlex, simple black line is enough

Do you have any idea how much that would tank performance? Imagine how many lights there are in a city, then add poles to all of those that the sim has to render. No thanks.

i think they managed to fix lights which is already many of them and it look very good i think they can find a way around to add poles to them, and if so it does effect it way not maybe add a possibility to disable it… its not that hard to make it possible

No thanks. I don’t want to render all those poles.

If this thread is any indication, it seems most people do not want them added. So if most people don’t want poles added due to performance considerations, why would Asobo go through the trouble? They are not going to add something that most users disable and makes the sim more unstable.

Threads like this bring naysayers who oppose anything just for the sake of it. If XP12 can display light poles plus million other details, I don’t see a reason why FS2024 wouldn’t be able to do this.

Floating night lights was a feature from an FSX addon “Night Environment X” which was adopted natively for MSFS 2020. Maybe an independent developer might come up with a clever way to depict road details like this, just like they did for all sorts of other things

agree cuz even the older sims has it…

That has to be custom scenery.

The option to toggle it would be nice.

But imo other things are higher priority. Like clouds and road traffic that look better.

If my memory serves me right, FS2020 had poles. At some point they were removed, leaving only the lights.

They were possibly removed for performance reasons.

It’s not, it’s default XP12. Unless you mean the ground textures, that looks like satellite imagery which is not default.

If those signs are default that’s very impressive. Even more so if the directions are accurate. Can’t say I have ever paid attention to that in my demo daliances with XP12.

They also simulate the railway signals going red/green and trains stop when the line up ahead isn’t clear :joy:

Once change they could make is change the light sources from these omni-directional ones into ones that cast their light directly downwards instead.
