In Development - Virtual Cockpit for CaptainSim C-130

yes as far as I know it’s correct. they are calling it 1.1 but there are a couple zeros in the middle.

Thanks so much

I am very curious for opinions on this aircraft’s current state. I would love to have a steam gage C-130. Are the basics all functional - basic autopilot, fuel system, flight model, etc?

From what I know, yes, the basics are functional

Yes, the basics are there, including a seemingly accurate autopilot system, de-icing capability, electrical system (mostly), etc. Visuals look outstanding.

Sound-wise, the TSS Allison T-56 sounds for FSX/P3D work well with this model.

Is this the C-130 newly released on the Marketplace by Captain Sim? The screenshots look quite nice, but I have read so much negative feedback on CS that I am not ready to give them my money. So what is the verdict for the current state of the plane?

It is the newly released one, I wouldn’t buy anything from captain sim honestly I can’t imagine it’s a satisfying c130 experience, you seem to like pretty high fidelity stuff and it may be fun to play around with but I’d be shocked if it’s that.

Keep in mind I don’t own either of these C130’s, but I might get this one as it has the older cockpit. I’ve watched some videos and they look pretty decent.

I can only recommend watching videos for yourself. Usually the folks here are pretty good judges, but recently they jumped awfully hard on the Condor. I tried it and I’m glad I did, it’s a wonderful plane.

It’s a good, flyable and reasonably enjoyable plane. However it needs a lot of improvements something on the lines of C160 Transall. The sound and fuel systems really need looking into as early as possible.I for one is pretty “cheesed” at CS being always a bit high on pricing. They have now offered couple of packs of liveries but at an extremely high price of $4.99/-
Take a que from PMDG who have put on several free liveries on release of B777.BTW I am on Xbox series X.

YouTuber Into the blue has some very thorough and balanced reviews. His verdict carry a lot of weight for me. He sums it all up in the end.

Another source of plane recommendations is Barracus’ untiring effort to update the Top 10 Aircraft thread on this forum. The C-130 has hardly been mentioned there.

And btw, if you compare the screenshots from the H a the newly released E in the store, most of them are exactly the same. I believe better engines are the only difference between the versions.

Well and the tiny fact that the first release has no cockpit but is the external model only.

There’s now two releases with the cockpit isn’t there? I know there is one that isn’t that new anymore. I was under the impnression it had the newer cockpit and this one is the older (steam)

Ah, okay. I didn’t know that.

They’re slow and don’t keep to announced plans nor update with a change. Ie their new dev diaries, supposed to be weekly and look almost a month later and no second one

I think once an aircraft is put up for sale at whatever price any subsequent developments must be clearly mentioned with a price if there is any assigned for it.There appears some minor additions, superfluous in my opinion to C-130H but one shouldn’t have to buy a whole new aircraft. We may end up with series of same aircraft albeit modified. No point saying but Captain Sim needs to learn a thing or two from Azurpoly reference their Transall C-160 and several free liveries.

If people buy what they sell, do they need to learn anything? Apparently Captain Sim was one of the good ones in the past, but they pivoted to lower quality addons for MSFS. People kept on buying their products anyway, so they leaned into it and put out an addon with no cockpit. Guess what? That sold too. Say what you will of the varying quality of addons we get, but one without a cockpit should not have been viable enough to bring to market.

What they’re doing is working. Charging full price for slight model variations, locking down liveries to charge for livery packs, no cockpits (or reusing base cockpits from other models), reusing flight models from other base aircraft, it’s all resulted in enough sales that they see fit to keep going.

There’s little point in trying to invite change without using your wallet. Don’t buy what you don’t want. If enough people do that, things will change.

I would disagree. Captain Sim sells way more than Azurepoly I think you’ll find.

Remember that what the customer sees as a good thing, isn’t always a good thing for the business. Often it’s the opposite. Sometimes it works together. The one thing we know however, is that CapSim is one of the highest selling devs.

Lower quality probably makes a lot more money. You spend 1/20 the time making it and sell maybe 3/4 as many. Math is where it’s at. The majority of players seem not to care too much about high fidelity and the time it takes to create a really good aircraft.

I recently got a chance to fly the C-130H. I didn’t think it was that great - surely not worth $40, but my friend who bought it likes it well enough. He hadn’t even noticed most of the things I noticed. He’s who CapSim is marketing to, and he’s the majority I expect.

That may not be smart though. F2P games taught the world that. Make a bunch of things almost identical and a lot of people will buy them all for any of a number of reasons. Obviously some won’t, but those aren’t the people you’re marketing to.

There is a 2nd livery pack for the E variant available. A polish livery from 2023 for the Echo. LOL
I wanted the USAF 70-1276 livery from 96 for the H variant. And the canadian for the H variant.

If only he could make all livery packs compatible to alll versions…that would be a beginning. lol.

why would he do that? that will make him less money.
