In-game Internet Speed Test

Please add a method for users to test their connection to the cloud server in-game to help with troubleshooting internet connection issues.

Some games give you the ping when you connected, doesn’t Microsoft give you the same when you look at the different server’s? I thought it did.

I thought the higher speed would indicate a poor connection.

Naaah, this would exacerbate the issue because of all those who would constantly check and occupy bandwidth.

FYI, I don’t know if this is what you are asking for, but there is an in-game Mbps counter in 2024:

You can enable the FPS window either in dev mode, or by creating a shortcut to the FlightSimulator2024.exe executable and adding the -showFramerate parameter, i.e.:
FlightSimulator2024.exe -showFramerate

(there is also a -showFramerateMini parameter, but I’m pretty sure this does not show bandwidth usage.)

I am not sure if this is the same thing, but what I think would be convenient is a way to test/determine if the available streaming speed/available bandwidth is sufficient for effective game play.  Such as:

  • A way to test at the game’s home screen.  Yes, you can view ping times, but that is a vastly different metric than the ability to move large amounts of data as a server’s ping may be low, but it might be so busy that it can’t actually get the data to you.

  • The same metric, but also taking into account your current graphical settings, VR, etc.  This would indicate if you have sufficient bandwidth available to support your current in-game settings for effective and fluid graphics.

The idea behind this would be to allow the user to preview the effective server’s performance and decide for himself if its worthwhile to even start the game at a given time.

I guess it might work. Not sure.
