In-Sim Frame Limiter Doesn't Function

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

None Installed.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Constant Since SU1

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

1. Vanilla Install, set in-sim VSYNC to on. Change FPS limit to 50% or 30% or 100% while Dev mode FPS counter open.
2. Observe no change in frame count. If set to 33% (20fpts), frame count remains above 20fps. If set to 50%, frame count goes as high as 40fps. Set it to 100%, no change in frame count.
3. Turn off VSYNC, no change in frame count. External frame counters match in-sim frame counter.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

Dev mode only on for FPS counter during troubleshooting.

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

Graphics card not outdated, issue occurs regardless of driver version
NVidia RTX3050

Issue occurs with two different monitors of two different brands with two different monitor drivers

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Intel Core i7-12700K
32GB DDR5

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

**ā€œSet the frame limiter in the Nvidia Control Panelā€ is not a solution or wisdom."

vSync is related to your monitorā€™s refresh rate. What is yours set to in NvCP?

Yes, thatā€™s correct that VSYNC is related to the monitorā€™s refresh rate. Itā€™s set to the monitorsā€™ refresh rates of 60Hz and is never changed. Itā€™s also set to 60 in the Windows display settings. Changing to any available refresh rate options in the Windows display settings has zero effect on in-sim frame count. Other graphics-intensive simulators on the system which use their own VSYNC, including MSFS2020 are functioning correctly. Itā€™s only MSFS2024 in which it is not functioning correctly.

I noticed this the other day. Using a 1080p 60Mhz refresh rate TV if I set the limiter to 100% of refresh rate or set manually a limit of 60fps it doesnā€™t limit frames and runs my GPU at 98% while pushing 130+FPS

The RTX 3050 only has 8GB VRAM. What GPU Memory usage does the Dev Mode meter show? Perhaps youā€™re running into the well-known DX12 VRAM memory management problem?

Nah. The only problem Iā€™m running into is the in-sim frame limiter not functioning.

I wonder why mine is working fineā€¦
7950X3D, 3090 Ti (driver 572.70), 64GB, 1Gb/s fiber, WiFi 6

I donā€™t limit framerate in NvCP, or nVidia Profile Inspector, or RTSS.

My monitor is 144Hz, and if set vSync off or at 100% I get 90+ FPS (in a scenario like my Bonanza over the Sahara.) No Frame Gen.

If I set vSync to 50% I get a steady 72 FPS.

If I set it to 33% I get a steady 48 FPS in that same scenario (but why would I?)

FS24 (not on Beta)

Thatā€™s great that itā€™s working for you. It was working fine for me until SU1. Unfortunately I canā€™t use MSFS2024 unless the in-sim frame limiter is working like it was before. Thatā€™s the thing with this software. Every time I get it running perfect, I come back to it when I have time for leisure, open it up, and thereā€™s a new problem that makes it unusable for me. I guess whenever/if ever they fix whatever they broke in it, Iā€™ll give it a try or something. I might just be out $120. The mere fact that itā€™s working for you means this bug report will essentially never be addressed ā€“ standard mechanic ā€œcould not duplicateā€ will be the answer instead. The visuals are more life-like in 2024 than in 2020, but at least 2020ā€™s in-sim frame limiter is still working and I can use 2020 (at least until they break that, too). My thought, though, is that Iā€™ll just pretend 2024 doesnā€™t exist for a couple years. Hard to do with those visuals, but at least I wonā€™t have to hope it works every time I click the icon cuz I wonā€™t be clicking it. Iā€™ve spent more time looking at these forums than I have flying.

I really wish the powers that be would allow us to create polls.
You have to be at a certain ā€˜trustā€™ level to have that ability. Iā€™m not there. If I was I would create a poll that asks a simple question:

ā€œDoes vSync in FS24 SU1 work to limit FPS to the desired percentage of your monitor refresh rate?ā€

It would be helpful to have a lot of folks chiming in on your thread, if for no other reason than to compare notes and learn whatā€™s different with the systems that it works on vs. those it doesnā€™t.

I discovered a workaround. If I go into UserCfg.opt and change FrameLimiter = 0 to FrameLimiter = 30, and then open the simulator, the frame limiter is working. Something about setting it in the menu is not being set to anything. So manually changing it in the .cfg file is the current workaround.
