In VR does Ray Tracing add definition to msfs terrain/scenery/buildings?

Can you advise how much, if any, the graphics of msfs in VR are improved using a ray tracing gpu?

I enjoy looking over the world so would like the best graphics in msfs VR.

I presently have a Z390 mobo, I7 9700k cpu and GTX 1080 Ti gpu.

Considering moving to an RTX 2080 Ti gpu.+

Ray tracing is not implemented yet, they just talked about it in their last video from Asobo and MS.

I think in their discussions it will help with water reflections and lighting, but think they are still working out the ray tracing.

I don’t have the link of this months talk, but its on this site.

The 2080Ti is a great card, but you may want to check out the 3000 series cards, the 3080 is like 799.00 US, and out performs on paper the 2080TI.

I still have the 2080TI its fine, reading a lot of people having issues with 3000 cards in VR, but not sure if its the cards, or what…

Thanks very much Vonzeigler, I was not aware ray tracing is not supported in msfs. I’m pretty satisfied with the 1080 Ti so far.

I’m afraid the ray tracing (if implemented) will have impact on FPS so not much feasible for VR.

I don’t think there’s any domestic hardware around today that’ll run ray tracing in FS.

From what I gathered in the last Q&A, the dx12 version will not have raytracing at launch. They said they were just working on getting everything ported over and running on dx12 and then going to add raytracing later. I would guess it would be another year before raytracing and maybe dlss is implemented.

I wonder what this does in the UserCfg.opt file since ray tracing is not active in the sim:

{SSRaytracedShadows
Enabled 1
Quality 1
