Infinite freezes. even on the menu

Hello, I need help with MSFS2020 work. The first problems started about half a year ago, but I stopped flying. Now I wanted to go back, I installed the latest updates but the problems did not disappear.
The problem is that the entire simulator constantly freezes.
Starting with a bug when checking for updates, a very long loading time of the simulator itself after constant cuts after a few seconds. While in the menu, the game may sometimes freeze for a certain period of time - hang up and then hang up again. Looking at the task manager during a freeze - the CPU, GPU and RAM usage drops to practically 0.
The situation is exactly the same after getting lined up at the airport/during the flight. It’s OK for a while and then it freezes for a few seconds.

I tried deleting the entire community folder, I tried reducing all graphics settings to the lowest - the problem still persists.

I would like to mention that this problem never happened before, it appeared out of nowhere.

Specs;
processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600
gpu AMD Radeon RX 6700
ram 16gb
dedicated 1TB SSD drive

It’s not the most powerful PC for MSFS2020, but not long ago there were no problems and I could easily achieve 40-50fps.

I tried to search various forums for a solution to the problem, but I still couldn’t solve it, that’s why I’m creating this thread. I believe someone will be able to help me.

Hi @Robakyo, & welcome to the forums!

There are many reasons why the simulator can freeze, and trying to track down the causes is not easy, as you appear to have found out for yourself.

From what you wrote, I see three separate issues:

  • Checking for updates.
This has been affecting many users for the past few days - you can read about it in this topic.
    .
If you read through the topic, you’ll see a number of solutions that worked for individuals (but none that are guarenteed to work for everyone). On the two occasions over the last couple of weeks where the sim got stuck (i.e. more than 30 seconds) on ā€œChecking for Updatesā€, I just pressed Alt-Enter to get to windowed-mode, clicked the exit button (ā€œXā€ on the right-hand-side of the menu bar at the top), then restarted the sim. It has worked for me and for others, but not, unfortunately, for everyone.

  • General freezes
To start with, Have a look at these self-help steps from the Zendesk:

  • In-Flight freezes ā€œafter getting lined up at the airport/during the flightā€
This can happen when the sim is being requested to do too much at once. This is particularly the case when on approach to airports. The sim has to both render the world around your aircraft and start loading all the scenery & AI at the airport.
    .
Airport traffic density - both planes & ground vehicles - have an impact on performance and can cause stutters, depending upon PC hardware, GPU software settings & MSFS settings.
    .
If you are getting stutters on approach or while taxiing at an airport, try lowering the Airport Life settings (under Options | General Option | Traffic) to a lower value or even zero.

Hope this helps!

How long have you had this issue?

I ask, because I have two PCs. My secondary PC is a laptop that I have a very minimal sim install on. I use this PC, primarily, for sim development work and for testing/verifying sim issues I see reported here on the forum.

Anyhow, often I will launch the sim and work on something else while the laptop sits idle next to me with the sim running untouched.

As of last night, I am seeing something, very much, like you are describing. If I turn to use the sim I will find it is completely unresponsive. I see no mouse pointer when I move my mouse and the sim appears to have completely locked up.

However, if I wait 10-20 seconds or so, the sim suddenly starts responding and behaves as it should do.

I see this happening in the menus or if I’ve loaded into the cockpit.

I haven’t made any attempts to fly on this PC, so I often load an aircraft or a location, check out an issue, come here and report and then leave the PC sitting there running, so I don’t know if these ā€œpausesā€ would happen if I was actively using the sim. The issue seems to crop up, for me, when I am not directly interacting with the PC while the sim continues to run.

Like I said, this happens in the Welcome screen and other associated ā€œmenusā€, it happens if I’m loaded into an aircraft and haven’t paused, it happens if I am loaded into an aircraft and have paused.

My install:

  • absolute base sim
  • MS 307
  • MS C-47/CG-4A
  • Navigraph
  • 3 Aeroplane Heaven Community folder liveries
  • My 307 mod

This is the same install (with the exception of the recent addition of the C-47/CG-4A) this PC has maintained since very early in the SU15 beta cycle.

In other words I’ve not altered it nor have I installed anything else on the PC other than Windows and Microsoft Store updates as required.

I am not in Developer mode and the Rolling Cache is off.

I’ve tried a number of things to troubleshoot it, but nothing has helped.

I also have begun experiencing the extended Checking for updates issue as reported elsewhere.

Okay. In my case, my freezes are directly related to my Bluetooth mouse going to sleep, which is causing the freeze upon waking it.

What is odd is I’ve had this mouse since December. I have to wonder if a Bluetooth driver update or Windows update is responsible for this, because this was never an issue in the recent past.

Weird.

I’m reversing the thread for now, I’m 99% sure that my problem was a loose pin powering the graphics card, which caused voltage drops and ā€˜overcharging’. After reconnecting the pins to the graphics card, there are no problems
