I never noticed the HCG Spartan flies nose down, and I flew it pretty recently. Can you link a video showing that on the real thing? I can’t imagine the attitude indicator shows 10 degrees down on the real thing.
Edit: I had a few minutes to check the HCG version, and I stand corrected. It does fly slightly nose down wings level. It seems more pronounced in the ini version though, but that could just be me.
I thought one of the vids I’d seen was pretty conclusive, but its been a while and the ones I’ve found only hints at the nose-down attitude, and even those are subjective.
Flyby at 40 seconds.
And at 2:35 in this one
This is probably the best one, though it’s not as nose-down as the Ini.
For what it’s worth, I asked ChatGPT, “does the real-world spartan 7W executive fly with a nose-down attitude in level flight”, and got this response:
Yes, the Spartan 7W Executive does tend to fly with a slightly nose-down attitude in level flight, which is a known and documented characteristic of this aircraft.
[lengthy list of reasons why snipped]
Real-World Observations:
Pilots who have flown or restored Spartan Executives often report:
A slight nose-down sight picture in cruise.
Trim tabs are used to fine-tune pitch at various speeds and weights.
It’s stable and comfortable in cruise, despite the nose-down appearance.
This is normal and not a sign of a trim or rigging problem unless it’s unusually pronounced.
I don’t take stock in anything spit out by a LLM, but the videos show a clear nose down attitude. I’ll give the iniBuilds version a proper go after work.
Any way to hide the phone? It’s very cleverly placed right in front of speedo
Anyone knows what does the L/G SYS swtich do?
It’s a really nice plane. I like it. But the manual… oh my it’s terrible
The two (2) Cabin Lights switches that seem to do nothing (in the modern variant, at least)
Pitot heat on the modern panel (?)
Additional liveries for the modern variant (am I missing some or is plain metal livery the only option?)
Marketing page says: “External GSE such as rain covers, chocks, oil drip tray and multiple safety flags and pins controlled by the EFB” yet only the drip tray and some steps are available in the EFB - am I missing something, or is it missing something?
I did get the 1.04 update and… still hate it. I’ll push my flight stick 3x more than any aircraft I own for 3x less responsiveness to the input.
I don’t think the HCG version was ever that bad. I tried swapping in the .cfg file wholesale but it didn’t work and I don’t know enough to make changes to specific parts of the file.
You reverted to the default files and are happy with it?
Yeah, I still don’t like how it flies after that update. The nose down attitude is still too exaggerated in my opinion, and it’s so slippery it’s nearly impossible to slow down.
First and probably last iniBuilds purchase for me. It looks like they’ve made a small update and abandoned the plane to it’s current state. Limited budget to create the plane I guess, and no intention to ever make it a “great” one. Fair enough, but a bit disappointing to see compared to the labour of love that other devs are putting out there.
Well, only hope now is that a modder likes the frame enough to one day create something akin to a Denarq mod for the Beech 18. One can dream! In the meantime, this one goes back in the box.
iniBuilds fixed a number of issues that were bothering me FM-wise and nav-wise and, at least for me, it works far better than with swapped files from the HCG version (which had a number of issues of course since essentially I created a Frankenstein aircraft).
Also, I do not think the swapped HCG files would work correctly with the v1.0.4.
