Insane Detail Around Queenstown NZ

I’m just completely blown away by the level is detail around Queenstown, NZ. I haven’t come across anywhere else yet that has this level of graphical fidelity. Every rock, tree, bump, building, and cliff is generated. The DEM level must be 1 foot and the terrain imagery is 8k or more. I imagine this is how MSFS2024 is going to be everywhere.

Anyone else discovered places with this high level of terrain fidelity?

That’s the only area to feature this level of detail. At a cost, I might add as it also features the well known (and hopefully gone in about 36 hrs time) stutters on approach when using more complex aircraft …

It is a little taste of FS’24. It’s a TIN terrain mesh from a 3D scan of the area. Previous DEM terrain in Flight Simulator used a regular grid of elevations, which get warped and lose detail on cliff sides and cause rounded mountain tops. These 3D TIN meshes can fix that. There are new ultra high resolution TIN scans in FS’24 like the Grand Canyon, larger areas in lower resolution, and worldwide TIN that’s autogenerated from aerial imagery. Not everywhere will be that detailed, but everywhere should see a major improvement from FS’20 if there is decent aerial imagery there.
