Install fs2024

The time has come to install fs2024, on disk C I have 2020 and I have disk D which is all free. When installation starts can I tell it to put fs there?

MSFS 2024 is installed a bit differently compared to MSFS 2020. After clicking ‘Install’ in the Xbox app, make sure to select the drive where you want to install MSFS 2024, as there won’t be a screen later where you can choose the location for the packages.

I wonder if there’s any way to install and load MSFS 2024 from my 18TB Sata HDD and just keep the rolling cache on my SSD. MS Store does not allow me to install MSFS 2024 on my HDD.

My System: HP Z2 Tower, Win11 24H2, i9-14900K, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD (M2) + 18TB HDD, RTX4070 TI Super 16GB, Samsung Odyssey 57" curved monitor, TB VelocityOne Stick + Throttle

You can store the rolling cache in another location.

Ok. But why does MS Store/Win11 not allow me to install MSFS 2024 on my (Sata) HDD?

I have no idea, sorry. I have MSFS 2024 stored on it’s own SSD (Steam version).

Install via Xbox app

Helloo

MSFS will only install on SSDs or faster Hard Drives. That’s why
EDIT : Wrong, as proved below.

K.

Nope

Toshiba SATA HDD

You can also install MSFS 2024 on an SATA HDD

Ok. But how does MS know how fast my HDD is? My HDD is approx. 250MB/sec. Isn’t that fast enough?

Well, ok. But MS does not allow it. Why?

I stand corrected. Thanks for that !

Ok. I guess I need help for that.

I bought MSFS 2024 via MS Store. Do I need to rebuy MSFS 2024 via XBox ?

May be I ask stupid questions here. Have mercy with a rookie.

Did it.

But MS say my drive hasn’t been setup as NTFS - which it actually is.

Seems I’m stuck here.

MS just accepts NTFS formatting with a 4KB sector size. But Win11 won’t allow a sector size less than 8KB with my 18TB HDD.

FCK it.

Windows does not allow formatting an 18TB drive with a 4 KB cluster size, the best solution is to split the drive into smaller partitions. You can create two partitions, for example

  • partition_1 8TB
  • partition_2 8TB

which will allow you to format each one separately with NTFS and set the cluster size to 4 KB.

Cluster size limits in Windows

Cluster size Largest volume and file
4 KB (default size) 16 TB
8 KB 16-32 TB
16 KB 32-64 TB
32 KB 64-128 TB
64 KB (earlier max) 128-256 TB
128 KB 256-512 TB
256 KB 512-1 PB
512 KB 1-2 PB
1024 KB 2-4 PB
2048 KB (max size) 4-8 PB
