Installation destination drive issue

The thing that is odd is there are 8 other games all in the same place and they install right where it says to go. Just issue with MFS.
Just started talking with Steam and I have sent them screen shots showing whats going on.

Heard back from Steam. Everything I have looks OK. All settings correct.
They say ā€œwith this games specific launcher, it looks like some files may be required to go on your C drive.ā€ Sounds like they donā€™t know what/s going on either.
They then referred me to the Microsoft support group.
So I am back here.
Still trying.

Iā€™m in agreement with Steam on that. MSFS does have itā€™s own launcher and this game/sim is built as an app, rather than a program.

Someone on the forum may have to help you further as I donā€™t have the Steam version so I donā€™t know how much of that gets put on the C: drive, but at any case, the MSFS installer should give you the option to install on your D: drive - this would be the main MSFS files. I know thereā€™s been some on here able to install to another drive other than C: (except for the ā€œappā€ related part of it).

Was working with Steam tech support pretty much useless. Just checking and rechecking and reinstalling etc. I canā€™t figure it out . They gave me a credit for it and itā€™s gone.
Going to repurchase from Microsoft store and try again.

Hi @FierceManager6,
When you do this, make sure Windows 10 is current. Reboot if anything installed. Second assure your graphics drivers are current, reboot if any updates. Then check the MS Store apps for any updates. Reboot again if thereā€™s any. After purchasing MSFS it will be in the MS Store app. About 1GB size. This will install to the C drive. Launch that and from there choose the drive you want to install too. Make a folder on that prior to doing this. Like D:\MSFS

The final solution if anyone is interested or if you may run into this problem.

(spoiler alert I never found out exactly what the problem was)

First of all I never thought about it before but if you use an app/game whatever you wish to call it

through Steam, you still end up playing it in the same place you would without Steam.

You are adding an extra account with a whole bunch of extra stuff on top of the game that can go wrong and cause problems, not necessarily with the game but being able to use it.

I do not think Steam was responsible for this issue but I will not be getting anything else with them. Really serves no purpose

other than maybe organizing everything in one spot. Just my opinion.

Received refund from Steam.

Purchased again in Microsoft store.

Started to install.

It asked where and had option of C & D. Chose D like before.

Started downloading. Three downloads were occurring and it was showing an error on all. Here we go again.

Stated checking around and I see Flight Simulator Refund credit has been issued. What? I just bought it 20 minutes ago and credit card payment approved.

It appears when you purchase through Steam, they just buy from the Microsoft Store and I assume get a commission? My purchase/refund from Steam shows up in my Microsoft account. Whatever.

Any way, uninstalled everything and started again.

Same thing. Asked for drive and started downloading.

Finally came to the screen for the major install.

EXACT SAME SCREEN as before when it wouldnā€™t work. Asking where to install but only path shown was C with no way to change.

When I click browse button to find another location, D does not show. No way to change.

At this point I gave up and was going to let it install on C and deal with trying to move it later.

Started the install. After a couple minutes I went to check the drive to see the progress and IT WAS INSTALLING ON D!

Previously 3 times it was installing on C and had to be uninstalled. Never worked.

Again I canā€™t blame Steam and have no idea what was going on.

It is installed and appears OK at this point.

Thanks for all the assistance. I am sure I will have more questions, hopefully just about flying.
Also is there any way to change your name? I got this stuck on me when I got Forza 7.

Hi @FierceManager6,
Glad that all worked out! The long way around. If you havenā€™t done so, report what you had to do via zendesk (Support link of top of forum, then Submit a Request).

To change your gamertag, you can do this once for free. Open the Xbox app on your PC and from there you can request the change. When you do change it, donā€™t forget to update MSFS and all other Xbox related apps. (It may do it automatically, but check to make sure).
