Instant Blue Screen (BSOD) when trying to run MSFS - See Error Msg below

I dont think its anything to do with hardware, I only had my TCA sidestick connected.
Also some small updates. I did reset of windows today, At first the issue disappeared but then after updating windows the error appeared. so far I am only getting 1 error in the library now, 2012 Visual C++ runtime (edit: I still get all 4 errors but they dont all show up, only 1 at a time now and very randomly), after changing in Nvidia Geforce to Studio Drivers. I installed some apps like beamng and they work fine, I think I will wait until installing msfs until the next windows update.
Also the error code in MS store is Code: 0x8024402C
so yeah, something to do with MS servers, or connection errors
Edit: Disconnecting from my VPN made MS store update a bunch of apps I had, that didnt update when it was connected.
Im placing this on simply a connection error between servers and peoples pc’s.

I think best we wait it out, it cant be a coincidence that most of us here have experienced the bsods in the last week :man_shrugging:

Edit x3:
I noticed when restarting my pc and going to notifications panel 3/4 of the runtime download errors go away themselves which indicates they have downloaded normally but there is always one that is stuck.

I am yet to be able to bring any Microsoft technicians to this issue, honestly I think its just a period when MS store server glitch a bit and then fix themselves, as I read some reviews on MSFS in the Microsoft store and like in november last year a few people reported the same thing.

what happens if you remove these peripherals?

Following, same issues on two separate computers. Worked great a few days ago.

Well I will add my voice to the BSOD issue. I have been busy with other programs but tried to start today and BSOD. I see 3 different errors so far.

System service exception
POage fault in nonpaged area
and another that I can’t remember.

I see the store installing some C++ stuff (can’t find what anywhere). I noted that i had two different version of C++ redist. I reinstall vsredist x86 and x64 and now both are same version.

Many things changed on my system on March 9th which seems to be the trigger date.

The only thing I see is that I use voicemeeter potato and it has three virtual drivers installed. In the drivers directory they are win10.sys. This is nothing new but new for my new windows 11 system.

This problem is too prevalent to be a co-incidence with everyone having the same issue all of a sudden.

I also use X plane and no problems with 3 monitors which works my system pretty hard on vulcan.

Come on MS how about you install it or give us a method to see what drivers its complaining about and I would gladly remove. Hell I will cancel gamepass and install with steam if that is what it takes. I would even purchase standalone PC version without gamepass since gamepass seems to be the common thread in the reports.

I don’t overclock and don’t even really know how and why I don’t.

The only reponse from MS is always the same DRiver driver driver, not much help since most of us don’t know what that might be.

Yes I have the EXACT same problem as you, as do most other people here.
I also got Page Fault in Non Pages Area and also System Service exception and also MS store installing v c++ stuff. On my system there was some windows update on March 11.

It is not a coincidence it has been happening to us all since last week, its just Microsoft things. I will wait until my PC gets another windows update and then I will install MSFS again.

Luckily I am trying MSFS with the free gamepass that came with my pc so its not a big deal if I buy it off steam later, seems more stable there.

ah. bsod returned. I had to reinstall Windows 11 entirely.. i’ve narrowed it down to the latest culmulative update on Windows Insider. It isn’t playing with MSFS 2020 at all nicely. Was using nvidia studio driver and a CLEAN install crashed as soon as I ran after installing that latest Windows update :frowning:

did you try rolling back the update? I did, but it somehow redownloads itself.

I have uninstalled MSFS now. Tried reinstall from store and unable to launch. Removed again.
I have been having sporadic crashes just idling.

Can you confirm the update number? I suppose there is no uninstall option due to security updates. Great. Thanks MS. So restoring to factory seems pointless if the problem just returns. Well for now I will just play X plane and hope for a cumulative fix. Thanks for reporting your result. My last factory refresh ended dead machine.

I found even attempting to perform norton scan would result in crash but not Windows Defender, which I find interesting. Even first attempt to uninstall resulted in crash. Second attempt removed MSFS.

Specs for comparison.

MSI 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-12900K, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090

Unfortunately it makes no difference. I unplugged them after the first BSOD but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I also think that the troubles started after the Windows update on March 11. We should all contact the MSFS support via Zendesk. They will hopefully collect our reports and forward them to the right department.

For comparison I also use a 12th Gen Intel CPU and Norton Internet Security.

I also use Norton!
My specs as well are Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX3060 130 watt MAX-P, 16GB RAM 3200mhz.

I can confirm I’m having the same exact issues like most of you here..tried reinstalling msfs as well as doing a clean installation of Windows 11 yet the bsods problem persists. I’m also using Norton anti virus software..
I7 10700 Rtx 2060 32gb ram

I’m also on a 12th Gen CPU and Norton installed, not sure if this is a coincidence or a factor in this issue.

I can’t believe so many folks here having the same issue (me included) and MS are not getting involved in trying to fix the problem they introduced! I ended up re-installing Win 10 to cure the BSOD happening when just on the desktop. I won’t be re-installing MSFS again anytime soon, not until this is fixed anyway as it’s leading to general system instability. I may even jump ship and just get the base version of MSFS from Steam as this seems to be a much more stable install.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread and my thread (which was merged with this one), let’s just “hope” someone from MS sees this and addresses it. Bad support from them so far

may be this is the culprint ( or combination with the win update ).. users can often not sure that all of these Norton-stuff will be disabled if you choose “disable”. I personal would never install in special this “secure solution”. What these company do can we see with “Norton Crypto”. And, there are not less posts about norton-bsods in the net…

May affected users should futuremore report which anti-vir solution they own.

Same BSODs problem here since a few days. Absolutly frustrating
My Specs: 11th Gen CPU, RTX3070, 16GB RAM & Norton.

I tried deactivationg Norton => no difference.
Is there a way to deactivate completely ? Or full uninstall necessary?

I dont know whether all modules, services, dll’s , etc are not longer used if you disable these tool. There is to much stuff in it. Edmund also tried to disable it, with no positiv result. But if we see the latest posts, I read just everywhere the word Norton. May be “random” and the isssue is the windows update which corellates with many users too or another strange MS-Store update-issue, but…

Also If I read things like:

Then, the non-paged-area is mainly used by drivers and system, and norton is then a part of this. Who knows..

I have uninstalled norton completely from my rig and suprisingly! I can start the application for the first time since days, after several re-boots, re-installs etc.
Interestingly, a windows defenders message popped up.

deactivating alone is not enough, you do not need norton, windows defender is enough.
ah see, your last post…great it works now.

I’ve just re-joined the ms-community in 2021 after being a firm apple user for the past 15 years.
And still I am a noob. Back in the days : no antivirus = suicide. Is windows defender enough now?

Well, I attempted to disable as much of Norton as I could and still the same result. :frowning:

Installed the first phase of MSFS and received the page fault error. Good suggestion. Only one I haven’t tried is remove the cumulative update.
