Hi @inapa1467,
I’ve been using the Arc 770 with both MSFS 2020 and 2024. My 2 cents:
MSFS 2020:
The 770 can handle displaying bush flights on my 4K 55" TV with virtually all settings set at Ultra (or the maximum value) without a problem.
I don’t have any pmdg or Fenix aircraft, but flying the A320 neo around scenery-dense airports (EGLL, KLAX, KJFK, etc.) does reduce performance (= Framerates) & can cause a few stutters. Reducing some of the settings can alleviate this. Since I rarely fly airliners, this is not an issue for me. The cost benefit of the 770 when I purchased it far outweighed the improved performance of the better Nvidia or AMD cards that were far more expensive.
MSFS 2024:
Performance is not as good in the current build (v1.1.10.0) as 2020. I’ve had to reduce settings from Ultra to mostly Medium (with a few at High) to get framerates in the high 20’s, which though low, is quite smooth in many regions.
However, the card struggles displaying the newer scenery areas in the game that have improved DEM, TIN, etc. Some airports are simply unflyable (e.g. Sedona), with framerates dropping below 20 and tanking to a 5-8 FPS slideshow when landing or taking off. The sim also has a tendency to freeze in such situations, requiring the game to be killed in Task Manager.
However, at this point the game is too new and there is too little hard data out there to conclusively say if this issue is caused by:
- The GPU (hardware)
- The GPU (software), where a driver update could be the solution.
- MSFS 2024, where the issue might be fixed in a new build.
- A combination of any of the above.
VRAM usage in 2024 is noticeably higher than 2020. It often uses 90%+ of the 16GB on the card, all the time. The GPU also runs at 95% -100% all the time when in flight. My machine (with a a i7-1200K CPU) is definitely GPU-bound. MSFS 2024 also often uses 80%+ of my 32GB of motherboard RAM, all the time, when in flight.
So, in MSFS 2024, at 1440p you’ll get better framerates than me, but I doubt that you will be able to fly the pmdg & Fenix “without compromises” with this card unless you set most settings to Off, Low or Medium. And with these settings, flying in MSFS 2020 is probably the better choice.
If purchasing a card today, I would not consider any card with less than 16GB VRAM. 24GB would be my preferred option.
I do not play any other games on my PC other than MSFS, so cannot comment on how an Arc would perform in those scenarios.
Hope this helps with your decision-making.
