looks like the perfect chip for MSFS…
it will be a beast
Only 68 mb total combined cache, think I’ll look into whatever heavy cache mutant AMD comes out with next.
Also 350 watts it’s going to heat a 400sq ft room.
Already spec’ing my case and figuring what Z690 motherboard I want the Z790 version of.
Fast frame rates, and cuts down on gas heating bills!
Yeah, not going to be a cheap upgrade. only thing besides CPU/MOBO im keeping is 32gb ram, dont think DDR5 worth the upgrade/price for now
i like ASUS MOBOs
actually is in the post.
AMD 9 7950 VS INTEL 13900k
Cores / Threads Up To 16/32 vs Up To 24/32
Total L3 Cache 64 MB (+3D V-Cache) vs 36 MB
Total L2 Cache 16 MB vs 32 MB
Total Cache 80 MB vs 68 MB
Max Clocks (1T) 5.7 GHz vs 5.8 GHz
Memory Support DDR5 vs DDR5/DDR4
Memory Channels 2 Channel (2DPC) 2 Channel (2DPC)
Memory Speeds DDR5-5600 DDR5-5600/DDR4-3200
what im liking a lot here is the fact that intel is supporting DDR4 which im not planning to upgrade this year. Also 16 core vs 24 cores
The new AMDs are awesome. But since MSFS is pretty poorly multithreaded, single-core performance still has the greatest effect, so I’ll be jumping from 10900K to 13900K.
Thinking 13900K, 64GB DDR5, RTX 4080, high-end Asus Z490 motherboard with lots of M.2 slots, Fractal Design Define 7 case, and, once they are available, a PCI-e 5.0 M.2 SSD.
Flight sims have driven me to the most expensive end of the upgrade curve since the day I bought a Pentium II 400 to run Jane’s WW2 Fighters at a good frame rate in full SVGA resolution.
im waiting a little on DDR5 specially after knowing that it will still support DDR4
RTX 4080 will need to bring a lot to the table for me to change my current Suprim X 3080
64gb of a good DDR5 will be an expensive upgrade haha
will jump pci 4.0 , all my 3 M.2 are pci 3.0, going to wait till pci 5 m.2 launch
I priced 64GB of good DDR5 yesterday and it’s less than I paid for my 2MB RAM board for my Amiga 1000.
I’m not talking about new architecture there’s rumors of more L3 heavy CPUs on the 5k line.
Cannot believe that I once , long time ago, bought 4 sticks of 1 Meg Ram at $100.00 USD per stick. (IBM PC XT)
Yeah, I had 10MB ZIFF memory for Amiga A3000. It was not cheap.
I’ll be upgrading my 11900K to the 13900K, plus the Z790 equivalent of my Z590 Aorus Ultra.
I can only imagine how much power a 13900k + a 4080 will draw while playing MSFS…
Something like 600w+
Meanwhile I’m still on 9900K for the past 4 years and I’m still sticking with it…
Oh that’s rookie level. I’m still sticking with my overclocked i7-4790K from 2014
A lot more than 600W. My 5950X and 3090 currently pulls ~650W at full load according to my UPS readout. If the rumors of the 4090 with a max power limit of 800W are true, you’re easily looking at >1000W for just the processor and GPU.
