Hi new to MSFS and really struggling to interact with the cockpit, takes about half a dozen clicks to select a button and they hardly move as desired.
Is there a knack to it or is it just something I need to live with.
In a another flight sim I have I don’t have any issues.
Mouse or hand-controller?
Personally I can’t get on with the controllers so the mouse is always in hand. I’ve also got all the buttons on my yoke/throttle pedestal programmed too.
But my young grandson is quite adept with the controllers so it’s probably just practice.
Thanks - trying to use mouse.
I also have this issue, and I think it’s a combo of two things which are not likely to be resolvable. The first is the tracking frequency and latency, it’s a slight delay but enough to leave you trying to use buttons with a little inaccuracy. The second reason is that there’s no tactile resistance. When you reach for a light switch you don’t aim for the switch, you throw your hand at the plate and wait to literally hit the switch. I would hope the latter could be resolved with 3d printed platforms one day, but it would also require sub-millimeter precision. There needs to be better tracking with extremely low latency and high frequency for hand tracking to be better than the mouse functions that currently exist. Mouse inputs are given a really clear lane in processing in modern OS. For example: a mouse operates at sum millisecond latency, 1000DPI+. and mice have a polling rate of 1,000Hz+. Current hand tracking is approximately 120hz, and latencies are in the range of 30-60 ms, with the terrible addition of latency from AI methods to smooth the input (another 30-120 ms in current iterations.
TLDR:
Mouse: 1000dpi+, 1000hz+, <<10ms latency. Tactile feedback.
Hand: <240hz, relatively inaccurate, 10ms++ latency usually much more with smoothing and AI generative methods. No tactile resistance.
I see you are on PC…
In the General Options menu, Accessibility tab there is a setting called “cockpit interaction system” that can be toggled to “legacy”. Remember to click apply and save.
That may help.
Here is a video about it if you want to see the changes that it makes:
Thanks for the replies - who would have thought the default setting would be the mouse not fully functional.
All working perfectly now with Legacy selected.

Quick question: how to you bring up the toolbar when you are in VR mode? Or do you need to setup all needed tools before entering VR? Thanks already for any tips.
I have a button on my Honeycomb yoke bound to the toolbar, so toggle on and off is possible while in VR. The mouse is then used to select things from the tool bar, position them in the cockpit, etc.
Both excellent suggestions, thanks. I have a Velocity One flight stick with several buttons I never use. Easier than finding the tab key on a keyboard I cannot see.
It’s the left Ctrl key on my keyboard - I thought this was the default, can’t remember ever changing the binding though. Easy to find whilst under the hood, it’s the bottom left button. I
I also use the Caps Lock button to go in/out of VR, it’s the third button. Unfortunately I’ve used all the buttons on my yoke.
I use Voice Attack and just say toolbar.
I also use VA for a myriad of other uses (center vr, change views etc.)
