Invisible airplanes?

I’ve had a rash of invisible AI airplanes lately (sound and lights only). I’m not sure it it’s from being in developer mode the past few weeks, a recent bug or local install issue.

Anyone else having the issue?

I have seen this before when using live traffic with the AIG traffic folder also installed in the community folder.

Out of interest, do you have any 3rd party AI traffic installations or is this with the default live traffic?

I have AI default currently and other stuff disabled at the moment since I’m doing some airport development. I have my ground traffic set high for debugging purposes. But I did recently also install some of the C172 improvement mods, which are still enabled in Addons Linker.

I’m mostly worried my airport was causing it but that’s probably not the case.

I’ll untick the C172 mods while developing to see if it goes away. I think invisible airplanes are usually livery related.

I even got a combo invisible airplane doing the upside-down break dance!

I find this part interesting. AFAIK, and I am no expert here, there have been many reports that since SU10 MSFS has reduced the number of allowable “simobjects” that can be present within a certain radius of our aircraft. This usually manifests itself for those using AI/ship add ons where some injected objects fail to appear in the sim due to this limitation. However, I am wondering in your case if the high ground traffic setting is also a factor here as it would introduce a large number of these “sim objects”. I can’t be sure if that is the root cause, however, it may be interesting to check if reducing ground traffic to a lower setting removed the issue.

Thanks, what is meant by a sim object in this case? I want to make sure it’s not anything in my design. It feels like I have a ton of taxiway points given the airports layout! It’s just a basic GA airport, so I’d not expect it to be overloaded.

As far as the AI ground traffic, setting the value high didn’t seem to boost the airplane count as high as I was expecting.

These are definitely not Sim Objects… I don’t think you would be able to add a sim object to your project without realising it is a sim object as, if I remember correctly, in the SDK it is explicitly referred to as a sim object.

AI ground traffic, also if I remember correctly, won’t boost aircraft count, but rather the other ground traffic that is seen whizzing around an airfield, mosly ground vehicles. Each of these will be a “sim object” if I remember correctly, as will any “parked aircraft” that is added by adjusting that slider in the in sim menu options.

Multiplayer planes of real players are invisible for me sometimes and AIG planes as well.

I had my ground airplanes slider set to 90. I dropped back down to my normal values and I haven’t seen it happen yet. Although, the ground count never got too high that I could tell.

Same here. I always have AI disabled and only have multiplayer active. I have “Nothing” in my community folder. Occasionally, I see multiplayer tags sitting on a taxiway or runway but the plane is invisible.

Usually that player is just in the menus. Turns out that when you enter the menu in multiplayer your aircraft goes invisible but not your nametag.

I did not know that!

I found this fix. I’ll be testing it, but it looks promising, since my invisible planes are always Cessnas.

If you have invisible cessnas, with lights, that is most likely caused by the missing AI model files, yes. (What my fix does is just remove the entries for those missing AI models, via a community addon).
