Is AI traffic (offline) working?

Interesting.

  1. Could you specify at least one airport ?
  2. How much time you wait to see traffic going on ?
  3. Please tell me how much % for GA and airlners you set.

ONE last thing: could it be multiplayer aircraft that you are seeing ? please check that also. (disable multiplayer for tests)

Thanks

And if possible a screenshot of your traffic settings, because I’m obviously doing something Wrong! Thanks!

Let’s see, last place I for sure saw aircraft taxiing and taking off on the ground was in KINW, Winslow, AZ. Tiny place so I would not have been surprised if it was completely desolate. But in the time it took me to run through my checklists and get ready to taxi two light generic aircraft taxied to the runway and took off; one of those that looks like a Debonair but with a sixties style old-school vertical stabilizer, and one TBM 900. I am pretty sure I saw a landing at KINW a week before when I arrived.

Highlights from the settings:

  • Use Generic Plane Models (AI Traffic) ON; this is to work around the haunted aircraft bug.
  • AI traffic settings as per the second screenshot; keeping those pretty low to help with FPS and stuttering
  • Live real world traffic is ON in the Data tab, but that should not matter since I have AI Aircraft Traffic Type set to AI Offline in the Traffic tab.
  • Multiplayer OFF in the Data tab; I am not using multiplayer.

I weighed in on this in a different thread, but I’ll do so again for good measure: You can either have artificially generated traffic, or you can have live traffic, but you can’t have both, and the latter will come with a major caveat.

I have no position on the artificial traffic. I haven’t tried it. Given Asobo’s track record thus far I probably don’t want to try it.

However, for ā€œlive traffic,ā€ if Asobo streams it in from flightaware or flightradar24, it is going to disappear on the runway. Sorry, there is no practical way around that. ADS-B is not going to receive at that altitude (low to 0), and no government is going to share their ASSC/ASDE-X information with Asobo for purposes of a video game so you can see them taxiing and parking. Perhaps some clever AI coding could merge the two systems, but that sounds like a lot of work. And it still would likely be impossible to integrate with the actions of players.

The ATC integration of it needs a lot of work, but the traffic itself… In this case, I really think that Asobo has done the best that they can do to implement a feature. Think of it is as having a sky filled with real-time, real-life traffic. Forget the airport if you’re going to use it.

I am happy for those of you able to see any traffic period. I am one of those for whom any and every attempt at turning on traffic, results in an immediate crash to desktop. 100% of the time. 100% repeatable. Since that last patch of course. Hope it changes on Tuesday! But what concerns me is that not everyone has this happen. How will they fix it under those conditions?

Don’t get to fly often, but I’ve seen (and heard, and had to follow) AI Offline aircraft around Southern California on nearly all my flights, specifically at KCMA and KOXR. Also had to wait for a TBM to depart from KSBA. Fly GA props. If this AI system is like FSX, it takes several minutes for AI aircraft to spawn and approach an airport or start up and taxi.

In my experience, AI traffic on = 15 FPS drop wherever I am. I think this may have to do with the traffic logic calculations and such being CPU heavy and further CPU bottlenecking my rig. This doesnt seem to happen whatsoever with Live traffic - which seems to work far better. (oh and I see tons of both when flying. sometimes at LAX or SeaTac ive gotten 15+ planes on Tarmac or in final. Its fun but annoying to do patterns and such with all that coming and going because you end up having to go around a lot. )

Well. More than 20 Minutes in both KCMA and KINW airports. Nothing. All aicrafts parked with engines off.
Except one thing: After 15 minutes aprox in KCMA, one cessna , moved from its parking place to other location near other ramp. And stood there.
Don’t know, perhaps something is working in there for Offline traffic also, but it’s just too slow and too few (sliders don’t help here).
But in practice, I see no traffic in my flights with AI traffic offline.

Bummer, sorry it still does not work.

Turns out AIFP version 3.4.x.x can now decompile MSFS traffic .bgl files, so it is now easier to check what aircraft are supposed to be where and when and go look for them. Turns out there are 21 flight plans using KINW:

Let’s focus on this guy:

BlockquoteLine 9089: AC#11,N06839,14%,4Hr,IFR,01:30,02:49,330,F,0694,KAPA,03:30,04:49,340,F,0693,KINW

That is a TBM930 (upon looking up what AC#11 resolves to) that departs for KAPA at 01:30 UTC and every four hours, arrives from KAPA at 04:49 UTC and every four hours, and shows up when the traffic slider is above 14%. So I loaded up KINW at 21:35 to make sure I would see him leave with minimum delay. And sure enough, within a minute of ā€œGo Flyā€ that TBM930 taxis out for takeoff.

If you do not see that plane then something is wrong - I have no idea what, sorry about that, but it works on my system which means it should be possible to get it to work on yours. Either there are some subtle differences in our settings, or something different in our MSFS systems. Mine is completely unmodded, with no addons installed and no editing of any files.

Is that with Live or Offline AI? (The TBM from the schedule above)??

That is Offline AI. The traffic .bgl file I decompiled with AIFP (trafficAircraft.bgl in \FlightSimulatorPackages\Official\OneStore\fs-base-ai-traffic\scenery\world\traffic) is the file that contains the data used for Offline AI traffic. Live traffic is probably cached somewhere but I have no idea where or how to read that data.

Thx for the info. I will try that. Anyway, My point is in Big airports i have the same behaivour.Maybe flights schrdules are just too few.

Cheers - appreciate the effort. I’ll compare with my settings when I eventually get back on (this time work getting in the way rather than CTDs )

I have the Sofly Weather Preset Pro, and when checking out the presets while parked at Kahului airport, every time I change the weather preset, the air and ground traffic resets. I found that when I selected any preset with rain, I had a few AI aircraft taxiing around the airport. Maybe the offline traffic is tied to the weather somehow?

There are a lot of nice airports being released but I have not bought any of them because of this no traffic issue. I do hope they are looking into this.
