Is Asobo up to a game of this level?

Yay, I am a product owner for a 7 figure AWS application. I make educated assumptions on blathering on the interweb, and they’re usually pretty accurate. Edit to add. I am not, however, a developer. Though I am involved in the development process heavily.

If this is true you would know that the SOW for this project was likely under 10 mil. The ongoing development SOW is probably south of 1 mil.

For MS it’s the equivalent of 20 bucks for you and me.

You get what you pay for. I stand by my statement that MS went cheapo on this project as it was purely a test of their Azure platform.

That’s nuts. And way less complex than msfs yes.

As a retired Software and Computer Engineer, I would say Asobo is proving itself. I doubt they set the release date. I can tell you as a Microsoft Alumni from the early to mid-90s on the systems side, marketing drives the dates, and that’s still true.

Was it released too soon? Absolutely. However, I’m sitting here waiting on this massive update and I feel encouraged. Two updates have been released, and the second one is substantial. This tells me Microsoft and Asobo are taking things seriously and they aren’t going to drop the ball.

To be fair to Microsoft, the new industry standard of releasing beta level code and fixing it on the backend has been around for over a decade now. Is it more expensive than using QA and fixing the problems proactively? Absolutely. Does it diminish trust? Without a doubt. However, most software companies now follow this model.

If you want to avoid the bugs of a new release, give it three months. Not only will a majority of bugs be fixed, but you can find it on sale.

excellent post. this is so true. the user base IS are the beta testers and most especially in “gaming” world. Look at all the huge title that release as a complete mess.

I’d love to see some work from you devs who think this is over Asobo’s heads. I’ll be waiting

I would be fired if this level and severity of bugs were released. Some of these are basics. Of course there will be bugs but use your common sense. I’m not talking about some rare bug. This is horrible levels of QA

No most industries you couldn’t get away with this level of QA. (gaming i guess is another matter, and that’s across the board I’m not beating up Asobo) I deal with code doing millions of transactions moving millions of dollars. I was told mistakes get you fired. I don’t think anyone looses sleep at Asobo if your A320 battery button doesn’t work. And if Microsoft is driving the deliverables it’s on their timeline.

I’m glad you and some of us can enjoy the game. However, this is about the quality of the product on average for everyone. If I’m the only one eating issues I would state my case and try to have their support team help me. But like other posters have said, this isn’t just one issue. Most of us, on statistical averages, are now using a worse product.

Blizzard Activision had never in it’s history released an MMO prior to World of Warcraft in Novemeber of 2004. This of course hasn’t stopped the game from being the number one MMO in the world even today.

FYI - being a devloper of an unamed ‘something’ doesn’t mean that one’s opinion is of more value.

Dow Jones tech company. I’ll bet you 100x that amount that my role is greater than most of the people that work on this game. Or maybe not because if doesn’t seem like they care about the quality side of things.

I’m not expecting perfection. I’m expecting a basic level of QA and it doesn’t seem like they care. Let’s see if they hotfix it because for some planes and flying styles, this is much worse.

This strikes me as a pretty optimistic and somewhat academic view. Maybe I’m jaded, but I think it’s more likely that MS set a hard deadline long ago and didn’t care what state it was in at release time. They clearly launched a polished (and most likely time sensitive) marketing campaign, and it could have just been release time come hell or high water. The business goals always override the development goals in my experience. Or, again, maybe I’m just jaded.

I think you’re actually making the opposite point. WoW has its bumps but they were the first to produce a game of that scale on multiplayer servers. This product has some nice new tech pieces but we, at least not me, are not complaining about the complex flight models or how there should be this and that effect when flying on cold or hot days.

It’s about the basics right now.

I made the point of exposing the flawed idea of a so-called ‘developer’ with the opinion on Asobo taking on more than they could chew is flawed. As if ‘developer’ makes his reasoning more sound. It’s akin to plastering PHd on one’s book.

I can fly just fine, in a wonderful world simulated like nothing prior. It’s an amzing achievement thus far. Asobo is releasing patches. Don’t expect the world to be 100% perfect in every way including patches. Complaing and whining about it isn’t going to change anything.

Please go and enjoy the game then. You really think everyone here is complaining because they want to complain? The ones complaining have real issues and from what I’ve seen, like screens going dark and autopilots shutting off 2 mins into flight, are at a basic quality level.

Again, us not enjoying the game should not stop you from doing that if your game is fine. Don’t assume we are complaining because we have some agenda. We just want some of the basics working (again).

I have no idea why people constantly find fault but some have made it into a hobby around here. You and I don’t speak for anyone but ourselves.

If you’re not enjoying the game then perhaps you and the others who aren’t happy should go play something else while things get fixed.

This is a place for feedback true, but there is a big differnce between positive feedback and nagging constantly.

But if you believe that this kind of post is in anyway positive then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s baseless speculation and a personal attack on the developers right off the bat. What it has to do with the state of the game is beyond me.

this patch is really really bad, they can’t destroy a working plane like this witout testing, really no good

This thread makes me sad. Regardless of your opinion, how is something like this beneficial for the platform? Is it going to boost morale or inspire them to keep pushing updates and fixing the sim? Give ‘em credit for what they’ve done and inspire them to stick with us. They want to be with us for the long run and make this sim incredible, but threads like this don’t help that.

I seriously hope Asobo doesn’t login after a hard day of bug fixing, only to come and read topics like these.

Seriously, what’s up with that condescending title? This is not the time to be discouraging.

The development team’s morale is definitely not my problem. It makes no difference to me whether they have the happiest work environment ever, with rainbows shooting out of the overhead lights, or if they sit at their desks crying all day. I want and expect what I paid for. This is not a symbiotic relationship; if it was, I’d expect compensation coming my way.

That said, given their location I suspect they are sitting at a beautiful cafe’ together writing code during the day, and drinking world-class wine at night. I’m not going to lose sleep over their status.
