I’m on 16GB recently upgraded my gpu to a 2070 super.
My bottleneck is my i 5 4670k but will need a new mobo to significantly upgrade.
Will increasing to 32GB make any noticeable difference to my sim experience short term?

It may be noticeably smoother, despite your CPU will be a bottleneck. If you are able to use your RAM with a new mobo, then why not to upgrade now.
Personally, I recently upgraded from 16 to 32 gig ram and it was a waste of $180.
I run at 1440 with mostly High settings, and usually my total ram usage is around 12-14 gig. I saw it spike to 17 gig once, but I don’t remember where I was when it did that.
So what you guys are doing that makes your system use so much RAM, I dunno.
Interesting. I also play at 1440p at high/ultra. Idk, if I see a deal on the stick I want, I’ll probably just grab it. If not, I can wait.
Please keep in mind that on all modern systems RAM runs in Dual channel (DDR) mode. So to get the best result you need 2 (indentical) sticks of RAM (so 2x8GB for 16GB, or 2x16GB for 32GB). This effectively gives double the memory speed. Also don’t mix and match different sticks of RAM.
Yeah I meant dual stick, lol
16GBx2 SODIMM DDR4 2666mHz is what my laptop should run
currently runs 8GBx2 SODIMM DDR4 2666mHZ
good good, just wanted to double check
Yeah gaming on mac is not really helping for performance.
Don’t expect much, if any overall boost to fps, but it certainly helps smooth performance out.
I am getting a great experience on the Mac but i just cant explain the lack of FPS, i have a lot of grunt under the bonnet
I upgraded from 16 to 32Gb and did not really notice a difference. But, when I saw 97% memory usage at 16 I knew that it should be done. As time goes on, more than likely more memory will be sucked up by the sim. That can cause slowness and failures anyway you look at it. For me and my computer’s memory, I could afford the upgrade to future proof it.
That’s what I’m planning. I think I’ll wait until Prime Day/Black Friday and see if the sticks I need are on sale. If so, great. If not, then I’ll probably buy it anyways. I don’t need it right now so let’s see if the $133 price tag lowers a bit.
Vega 64? You could consider an upgrade … oh, sorry … good luck. Really, good luck.
that HDD for games will drag you down. have your games stored on an SSD at least, NVME if you can. prices of SSDs have gone down significantly.

If you buy faster memory than 2133MHZ (e.g. 3200 MHZ) your MB will not automatically use that speed you need to change it in the BIOS. It will by default use 2133MHz check your MB documentation.
To check your speed : Ctr + esc ( device manager ) → performance tab → memory on side tab → memory speed should be somewhere in the bottom right. If it says 2133 MHZ you might not have changed it in bios.
Also: if you have a prebuilt computer they buy in bulk and sometimes offer different speeds of memory that is only a bios setting change, it might be worth looking at for those who own prebuilt.
I would try to think in a different direction. What happens if you have not enough RAM ? The OS utilizes the defined amount of your hard drive, correct ? If that happens the application should slow down because the hard drive is slower than RAM. Ergo, if you don’t see the application slowing down you don’t need more RAM.
If I were to buy additional RAM I would buy the same brand with the same specs (speed and timing).
Welcome aboard, WalnutOdin53796!
I agree with your logic. I did see my memory usage get to 97% so for me that was a no brainer.
I have turned off all of the fps meters, and with the upgraded memory I have not been noticing any stuttering of any kind. I am running using Ultra, minus the windshield refresh option. All is well!
