Is something like this correct?
A couple of things;
- Thatâs not the community folder
- No, the community folder is not shared by default
- No, the install folder you are currently in is also not shared by default
That said, I am on Steam not MS Store as you are so maybe they do it differently?

That folder definitely shouldnât be shared, not by default at least. Do you see that indicator if you go up or down a level?
Thatâs the LocalState folder, which includes the packages folder which includes the community folder. Mine also says âSharedâ; presumably this is due to having filesharing enabled (my entire home directory is accessible from my other computers on the local network and yes, I can reach this folder through the network if I log in from my Mac).
Turning sharing on at a higher level would do it, but I was unsure if that would only be shown at the folder where the sharing is enabled, and hidden for sub-folders.
Okay, testing on my work machine I can see why this is happening, and its the difference between âNetwork File and Folder Sharingâ, and âAdvanced Sharingâ.
If I share a sub-folder on my desktop, letâs call it âuser_dataâ, this can then be accessed by browsing:
\\my_computer\user_data
However, if you share that same folder with what I think was called âSimpleâ sharing back in the day, it does share that folder, but a whole lot more. In fact the entire âUserâ folder, and from what I can see your entire user profile.
I still donât get the icon at the bottom left indicating that it is shared. To disable this you can turn off the sharing at the âC:\Usersâ level, then drill down to what you actually want shared, and configure that with âAdvanced Sharingâ instead. It at least gives you control over what can be seen over the network, as the other method seems to open everything up to the root.
