My game is starting to crash all the time. i am getting errors it connot read certain sections of the program and asked to shut down, and AI is not landing at airport that i told it to land at it just keep flying past the airport. h125 and h145 wont work and the sim crashes it crashed a couple times with community folder dis abled ,is it time to reinstall completely??? Please respond!!! thanks in advance for any help!!!

I cannot tell you exactly what the problem is in your system. All I can do is reflect on my own experience.
My system started crashing, not working correctly, and missing stuff. I completely removed and reinstalled and everything went back to normal. I have read that if you are running Beta, you will need to do this from time to time.

                                         Good Luck!

I think it is possible that there may be a corruption somewhere, given that even with the community folder disabled there are ā€˜issues’.

If you have the MS Store version of MSFS then you could try a ā€œrepairā€ in advanced app options from the start menu. Right click Microsoft Flight Simulator, select more and then App settings. Under the ā€œresetā€ section you can select repair. (Don’t select ā€œresetā€ as this will wipe all downloaded content if it is installed in the default location.)

Another possibility to explore is a problem with the hard disk. chkdsk may need to be run to verify disk integrity. You may also wish to investigate the sfc/scannow command as well to check that your windows OS is functioning correctly.

Yes, of course this program can become corrupt. There are many files needed to provide the flight sim experience, and fi those files get messed up it can certainly make the app crash or behave strangely.

The fact that the product is extendable through an SDK, that opens up an avenue for 3rd party products to crash the sim or impact the sim. That is why step one is always "remove 3rd party stuff and see if the issues go away.

That said, it is hard top say from your description of the issue if corruption is a likely cause. It sounds like the system is complaining about sections of the disk being unreadable, and if that is the case I would be concerned about hard drive failure – especially if it the HDD spinning disk type.

I would run chkdsk first, and see what that says. IF the disk corruption is not due to physical but logical volume (like perhaps a power failure while files are opened) then the disk volume could be messed up.

If chkdsk says all is well, that doesn’t mean the disk is 100% ok. It just means the file system thinks everything is OK.

Next I would rule out disk physical failure. You should be able to view disk SMART diagnostic data using tools like crystal disk, hwinfo, western digital data tools, etc. If your disk is physically failing, SMART should show that clearly.

There are also tools that can scan your disk and verify read/write across the entire surface.

Between chkdsk, smart and disk read/write testing, if everything comes up clean then I would uninstall and reinstall.

Might want to run a memory check after or before running the hard disc check. When I built this system I had a bad memory stick when I built it. Had to return and get a new memory stick.

You can try doing a repair of GS2020.

From the Windows desktop.

  1. Select Start-Settings
  2. Select Apps
  3. Under Apps and Features find ā€˜Microsoft Flight Simulator’ and click on it
  4. Click the Advanced Options text just below the icon
  5. Scroll down to ā€˜Repair’ and select it

This will attempt to check if all the program assists are present and so may solve your problem if it’s not a disk corruption problem

I have this theory that the sim is a SSD killer, probably based on the insane number of read/write functions going on.

A couple of months after the sim was released I began to notice stuttering when the developer splash screens appeared and during the infamous loading film. I tried reinstalling and it didn’t really help. Eventually I began to suffer from the dreaded CTD issues which lasted for over six months with me trying every solution suggested online. Eventually I decided to try installing it onto my HDD and I haven’t had an issue since. I haven’t even noticed a degradation in performance from moving it away from solid state read/write times. Maybe I just had a bad SSD but I can run anything else off it without any issues.

Who knows? But it worked for me and I’m not going to question the results.

thank you i tried the repair mention first but it did not work i will try the other 2 optioons you mentioned

OK BOSS i tried all of your ways of trying to solve the problem and actually bought HWINFO pro and there was no problem with drive . thank god !!!i paid 325 for a 12 terabyte Toshiba 7200 speed hard drive…none of those suggestions solved the problem …the game did get corrupted . so i reloaded the game from scratch and it seems to be working properly but the good thing is i did not have to recalibrate my settings on my joystick!!! im am by one populating my community folders …one for helis and one for birds and testing sim each time before loading a third party addon … i do feel better thanks
