Is Microsoft/Asobo throttling streaming quality/packages/LOD?

Anyone else wondering, following the server overload at launch of Microsoft/Asobo are throttling streamed data resulting in less packages, objects and LOD until more capacity is available? I know they said the server issues are fully resolved but curious.

of course they do . And do not count on the "until more capacity is available " part . They eventually going to smooth /spread out the throttling so it’s not that obvious to notice , but it will stay . All media streaming providers do the same during high demand times . Routine procedure for streaming services .

Would you mind quickly spawning to WSSS, 02C … Showcase camera up a few hundred feet and take a screenshot of the view of what you see out over Singapore bay ? TIA…

Standby, i’ll check.

I don’t believe there’s throttling going on, but I noticed yesterday a significant improvement with Texture Resolution = Ultra. I don’t normally run the sim with that level as it consumes VRAM. You have to have the VRAM to try this as even with all settings on Low it will likely exceed many card’s capacity. I recommend testing with Ultra texture resolution, if you can.

Feels like the whole of 2024 is a compromise

Thanks for posting those. I guess you don’t have the ship traffic enabled as can’t see any ships?

Will try this today!

I do actually…

What graphics card are you using?

AMD XT 6700 RX 12GB
But next year, i’m getting a NVIDIA card again.

Cool. Also wondering does anyone here think streamed data and LOD was better in the tech alpha compared to now?

That’s one of the details we cant see in game. Not many seem to notice that yet though, lol.

They throttled textures a few weeks back to get it stable through the hollidays. It was when they were in crisis then patched and it’s been somewhat stable since. Ultra texture resolution doesn’t seem to have the same hit in 24 than it did in 20. In 20 ultra resolution caused issues with the mix of everything from 2k to 8k resolutions with third party add ons, but hard to say without any addons…High sorts 20 out dramatically without any visible loss of clarity. I run 350-400 LOD and that seems ok, but at 4k on a 55" you can clearly see they’ve chopped down the textures to get them by for a bit.

And based on your understanding it’s been throttled ever since?

is not FSX, is 2024

It has its moments and you can see the potential but even when making hero passes over things like the grand canyon(at least the parts they’ve covered) and you can tell they’ve lowered the resolution. I’d bet they amp it back up when they offload assets to the HD like aircraft and scenery dependency libraries. Streaming the entire sim isn’t ready for prime time, nor does it make sense to stream the aircraft itself.

Anyway I feel like I waste an evening every time I go back to 24, something is always messed up be it controls or ATC or traffic or the aircraft or graphics issues. Can’t get through a flight without feeling the need to go back into the settings menu multiple times to putz around. In one area high lod works great until it doesn’t, ground morphing is fine then it’s a burden, aircraft at ultra crushes on arrival then switch to high on taxi and it’s fine but nothing changed. PG tree blobs suddenly become thousands of autogen ones and you have to change settings again…Just too much work. Feel like a tester rather than a pilot.
