Hello to all, Recently I returned my 4080 and got myself a 4090, I am wondering If my CPU “5800x3d” with DDR4 ram bottlenecks the GPU. Would I see any improvements if I get following CPUs? I am seeing the following deals from the micro-center (AMD 7900X with G.Skill 32GB DDR5-6000 for $449) (AMD 7950X with G.Skill 32GB DDR5-6000 $599) (Intel i9 13900K, ASUS TUF Z790 motherboard, G.Skill 32GB DDR5-6000, 3-IN-1 Combo for $850) (AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, ASUS X670E motherboard, G.Skill 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit $849). Thank you!
I have RAYZEN 7 5800x and RTX 3090 ti SUPRIM… and I can´t get a good FPS… if u have any sugestion please give me !!! thanks!!
I’m running a 5800x3D and a 4080 and under certain situations can be main thread limited even at 4K. The 5800x3D and the 13900K are currently your two best CPU options for MSFS. There’s been some argument about which one is better but I don’t think that there’s enough of a difference to warrant an upgrade.
The new AMD non x3D parts are out performed by the 5800x3D in MSFS. Benchmarks show the new x3D parts do offer a performance advantage at 1080P, but I haven’t seen how much of a performance advantage that equates to at 1440/4K. I suspect there’s some uplift but that you will still find situations were the CPU is bottlenecking performance. You may move the bar up some but I doubt you will climate it.
When I was playing in 4K with my old 9900K and 3090 in ultra setting I never had good FPS. I had to dial down some setting like terrain level of detail, object level of detail texture, super sampling and turn off traffic players names, with all those setting I could play little better, but I was not satisfied. Then I upgraded my CPU 5800x3D and GPU 4080 man the performance was fantastic. Only reason I had to return my 4080 because in JFK and Doha airport the vram was not enough it was crossing above 16GB vram and had really bad lagging issue. Now I got my 4090, I see 45 to 55 fps in KJFK on the ground and around the NYC the GPU usage around 40 to 50 percent. Thats why I am wounding if I need to upgrade my CPU as well.
People, it’s not our hardware, it’s just how MSFS performs.
So no matter what CPU I got its going to be the same performance?
No, thats to easy, but it never will be enough, MSFS just is a very demanding title.
As a Simulation veteran, i know that, without the help of upscaling tricks, above 1080p, MSFS will never reach a stable 60fps. It’s just how it is…
Maybe, we are just too demanding…
I got your point. I am very new in SIM world, and I play in 4k I guess I am expecting too much.
I wish they optimize the game properly before they doing all these world update.
For this reason i’m still at 1080p ( 34 inch ultrawide)
Lol I can’t do that I am graphics w h o r e.
Turn on HAGS in display settings/graphics on your desktop. Then inside MSFS turn on DX12 and DLAA OR PERFORMANCE and frame generation
I did that already no improvements. See I if get constant get 50 fps I wouldn’t care but when I see 35 to 60 fps with GPU usage 50 percent that’s kind of bugs me.
Are you measuring those FPS inside MSFS (ie. dev mode FPS view) or externally with another utility? If inside MSFS, be aware that the dev mode FPS does not show your doubled FPS correctly with frame generation enabled as it is the GPU driver rather than the game that is doing the doubling.
FWIW, my 5800X3D with a 4080 can show as low as 35 FPS in game at 4K Ultra in a complex scenario, but with frame generation that doubles to 70 FPS when checked externally, which is 10 FPS more than my 4K60 TV can display so it is all good from my perspective.
Good point! I will try that when I play next time.
The 7900/7950x3d chips are out now, with the 7950x3d looking to be the new king for this sim, but 7800x3d is due out in early April. Those two CPU’s are expected to perform about the same in gaming because the 7950x3d essentially cuts out half its cores and turns into a 7800x3d. If you have a ton of add-ons, the 7950x3d may be the better option (yet to be tested because AMD did not allow reviewers early access to the 7800x3d for comparison), but it’s also $250 more than the 7800x3d will retail at.
If you are already looking at spending that kind of cash on upgrading, those are worth looking into.
Hey Guys- Update here I decided to buy go for 7900X the deal was too good to pass out $450 for CPU and 32 RAM and I am glad I did, In NYC I am getting 60 to 90 FPS whereas I was getting 35 to 50 FPS. I don’t know if the CPU or the RAM lifted this boost of performance. To balance the 4090 at 1080p enable render scaling to 160.
DX12 and TAA. 100/100 on LOD’s and ultra on rest. Super smooth. Same CPU and GPU as you. If on 4K play with render scaling until fps monitor shows limited by GPU and dial it down 10 points until shows limited by main thread. Voilla, balanced system.
