Is there an actual fix for Error 0x803F8001 (MSFS currently not available in your account)?

New PC, fresh windows install, I cannot start MSFS because the store claims I do not have it in my account.

I know that there are countless posts about this with “solutions” but nothing I could find there works for me.

I am

  • Logged into the store
  • Logged into the XBox app

I have

  • confirmed the account I am logged in is the one I used to purchase the Sim (shows up in order history)
  • I logged out and back in again
  • I ran DISM
  • I checked that the date and time is correct
  • I reinstalled MSFS
  • I updated/installed anything XBox that could be related to account management like “XBox Identity provider”
  • I restarted the PC several times
  • I ran the latest Windows update
  • I started it from the XBox app

Nothing worked.

Enable offline permissions via ms store app.

1 Open ms store app → click your profile icon → app settings
2 turn the toggle button to the “on” permission.

Restart PC

Does not work.

It opened once after I completely nuked windows and reinstalled everything, but now it’s back to

Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently not available in your account. Make sure you are signed in to the Store and try again. Here’s the error code, in case you need it: 0x803F8001

even with store set to offline.

I have to add, and I thought in the beginning that’s just a fluke, that every time I open it I get a message that “Microsoft Store Package Dependency Installer” wants to change something. This might be related to this problem.

Now up to 7 hours trying to get this to run…

Remove “old devices” linked to your MS account.

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com/devices, sign in, and find the device you want to remove.
  2. Select the device to see all your options, select Remove device, then follow the instructions.

Sign out of xbox app and ms store app.
Restart PC

Also that didn’t fix anything.

Do you want to know what fixed it in the end after over a day of trying stupid things and MS even acknowledging that their “Gaming Services” is broken? Turns out you need to be signed into windows with the same account you are signed into store and Xbox. Then suddenly it worked. No one tells you that. And frankly it’s a ridiculous requirement, why do I need to be signed into 3 different things for a game to be able to run?

Microsoft has always been like this. I remember in older versions there were problems galore. Forums and experienced simmers are a good way to help each other.
