Is this an OK PC for general use with slow (10Mps) internet?

Absolutely - it is personal preference after all, However one thing I would note is the performance (FPS/Graphics…etc) that you can get out of Laptop is significantly lower then what you would get with same specs on PC.

Sure. I really needed a pc I could easily take with me. Thus the laptop. Couldn’t do both.

That’s a definite deciding factor, for sure.

BUT it is an option if he can’t afford a better system (PC) now. I am aware of the free addons and stuff, my community folder is full of free and paid stuff from 3rd party developers. The point is with an Xbox you spend a few hundred bucks, you can buy add on on the MSFS market and still look good on a a TV/monitor, a lot better that wasting money in a half decent system that a year later you need to replace the video card, add more memory, etc., and never be pleased with it.
People made fun of me when I installed a 1000 watts power supply on my old PC, then a year later everyone was running to upgrade their PS because of the new RTX 3XXX. I was ready for the 3090 8) I always think a step ahead.

That’s my train of thought also.

Oh, the days of lan parties where everyone would rig up a way to backpack their rigs … and some would drag their boat-anchor crts as well…

Good Times…

I guess we can add this to the “you know you’re getting old when” list.

It was reassuring to see people in their 90s still enjoying our hobby

I’ll never see 90 but I have made it 57 safe and sound. So far so good.

Hey, I’m 68 and playing W-frame right now. Gaming is the best thing in the world to keep your mind going when you get old, and I am not talking brain games for seniors… 8)

I have some free time and I’m just wondering why you asked this question? Can’t you test the laptop you bought? Or maybe you actually mean MSFS 2024 not MSFS 2020?

I’m not very computer literate and do not know where to begin testing and what for. No one around me is either. Just using the internet to try and learn a bit. Trying not make too many mistakes along the way. Thought this is what this forum was for?

Yep, but there are cases where it’s better to check the performance of MSFS on your own. We don’t have the same gaming hardware or internet connections as you do. It’s always worth checking what MSFS developers recommend for optimal performance.

MSFS 2020

MSFS 2024

In your case with MSFS 2024 developers recommend an internet connection of 50 Mbps (ideal 100 Mbps). You have 10 Mbps, which theoretically meets the minimum requirements.

Yea, I studied that but given my budget, lack of knowledge of computers and mostly my poor internet speed, for better or worse, I went with what I got. Another fellow on here gave me a link to a video about setting up the graphics. I followed it and learned quite a bit. Still looking for tips though.
