Is this right?

Hi!

Everytime I’m flying in the US it looks like the objects (mostly trees) look way worse than e.g. in Europe: all blocky and ugly (sometimes like a nuke went off…). I’ve got pretty much all settings on Ultra. Am I imagining things or do you agree something looks off?

That is photogrammetry, there is more of that in the US as far as I understand. Has its pros and cons, you can see your house rendered which is nice, but the price to pay is the melted buildings and blocky trees.

Sometimes it’s an indication that Photogrammetry and/or Bing Maps is streaming slowly to update your scenery. Check your Data settings and see how much you’ve streamed so far.

As a practical-check, fly around a Photogrammetry city like NYC and make sure all the right landmarks are showing up - Statue of Liberty, etc. Check your GB count on the data stream, it should be fairly hefty after that.

Thanks for the quick reply (both of you). I checked NYC (see screen shots below). There was around 1.32GB added to my data consumption and when it loaded I saw speeds of up to ~50 Gb. While flying I did a speedtest and it said 470Gb (I have 500Gb connection, so should be enough).

So this is what you would see as well (just checking to be sure)?

Based on LOD and pop-up oddities from the past, I think the only hand-crafted permanent polygon in the Manhattan area is the Empire State Building. So if you’re seeing the “One World Trade Center” building which replaced the Twin Towers and the Statue of Liberty in the bay, then Photogrammetry is working.

Yep, switched it off and it definitely looked different. Ok, so now I know atleast its supposed to look this way and it’s not an issue. Thanks!

It’s kept me from flying in the US so I may switch it off… I’ll fly around and see if I can get used to it or not. Thanks again!

I am torn on it. From some distances and in some conditions it looks pretty cool. When taxiing on an airport looking at the green truncated tetrahedron rocks with branches sticking out representing trees and the shapeless colored blobs representing cars in a parking lot it is horrible.

Same here…I’ve been switching back and forth in NYC for the past half hour and, like you said, it has pros and cons. I really, REALLY don’t like the wastelands view in the distance (I’d rather have generic buildings instead), but then again, it sometimes does look quite cool flying at 1500ft AGL looking down. Ah, I’ll play around with it and see. Hope it’ll keep getting better in the future!
